Abstract The synthesis of graphene and nitrogen doped graphene (NG) with inexpensive pyrolysis heavy distillate (PHD) as a carbon source and urea as a nitrogen source by chemical vapor deposition on a copper substrate under hydrogen flow has been studied. The variables in synthesis were process temperature and hydrogen flow rate. The PHD is rich in aromatic compounds. These cyclic structured molecules resemble the basic unit of graphene and there is no need to break C-C atomic bonds and allows…

Parametric Study of Methanol Chemical Vapor Deposition Growth for Graphene

Methanol as a carbon source in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene has an advantage over methane and hydrogen in that we can avoid optimizing an etching reagent condition. Since methanol

Graphene CVD growth on copper and nickel: role of hydrogen in kinetics and structure.

It is shown that hydrogen acts as an inhibitor for the CH(4) dehydrogenation on copper, contributing to suppress deposition onto the copper substrate, and degrades quality of graphene.

Graphene growth using a solid carbon feedstock and hydrogen.

The possibility of obtaining graphene using amorphous-carbon thin films, without and with hydrogen gas added is explored, and a large area, uniform monolayer graphene obtained had electron and hole mobilities of 2520 and 2050 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1), respectively.

Growth of graphene from food, insects, and waste.

This work has developed a less expensive approach using six easily obtained, low or negatively valued raw carbon-containing materials used without prepurification to grow graphene directly on the backside of a Cu foil at 1050 °C under H(2)/Ar flow.

Electric Field Activated Hydrogen Dissociative Adsorption to Nitrogen-Doped Graphene

High oxygen-reduction activity and durability of nitrogen-doped graphene

Nitrogen-doped graphene as a metal-free catalyst for oxygen reduction was synthesized by heat-treatment of graphene using ammonia. It was found that the optimum temperature was 900 °C. The resulting

Gram-scale production of graphene based on solvothermal synthesis and sonication.

The direct chemical synthesis of carbon nanosheets in gram-scale quantities in a bottom-up approach based on the common laboratory reagents ethanol and sodium is reported, yielding a fused array of graphene sheets that are dispersed by mild sonication.
