ハトムギもやしのメタノール抽出物の分画を行い,単純脂質成分に抗菌活性が存在することを確認した.単純脂質成分中の抗菌性物質の単離精製は,各種菌に対するペーパーディスク法を指標に,ゲル浸透クロマトグラフィー,逆相高速液体クロマトグラフィーを用いて行った.得られた2つの化合物のうち,細菌,真菌に対して抗菌活性を示すものをcoixinden A,細菌に対してのみ抗菌活性を示すものをcoixinden Bと命名し,質量分析,赤外分光および核磁気共鳴等の機器分析により,その構造解析を行った.その結果, coixinden Aは3, 5-dimethoxy-1H-inden-1-one, coixinden Bは1-acetyl-1-hydroxy-3, 5-dimethoxy-1H-inden と決定し,ともにインデン骨格を有する新規抗菌性物質であった.また, coixinden AとBの細菌および真菌に対する抗菌活性の差は,インデン骨格の1位のアセチル基の有無に起因していることが示唆された.
