近年糖転移酵素が種々の様式で複合体を形成することが判ってきた。ある種の糖転移酵素はホモダイマーやホモオリゴマーを形成し、またあるものは糖転移酵素以外のタンパク質と会合し、ヘテロオリゴマーを形成する。糖転移酵素が複合体を形成する生物学的意義として、酵素の触媒機能の安定化や活性化、基質特異性の変化、効率的な糖鎖の合成、細胞内オルガネラにおける局在性や輸送、他のエフェクタータンパク質による触媒機能の調節、などが挙げられる。このように糖転移酵素の複合体は機能的・構造的に多種多様であるが、本稿ではこれら種々の研究例について概観する。
