This paper focused on introducing the new-concept wave energy converters for the extraction of energy from waves and some results of an experiment on concentric two-body system composed of the hollow exterior cylinder and interior cylinder floating inside the exterior cylinder. Electricity is generated from the Power take-off system using relative vertical motion of two concentric cylinders. In order to maximize the relative vertical motion, the resonance, so called piston mode resonance, was…

Interaction of a Solitary Wave with Vertical Fully/Partially Submerged Circular Cylinders with/without a Hollow Zone

In this article, a three-dimensional, fully nonlinear potential wave model is applied based on a curvilinear grid system. This model calculates the wave action on a fully/partially submerged vertical

Bottomless harbours

Does the harbour of an artificial island need a bottom? The excitation of waves inside a partially immersed open circular cylinder is considered. An incident plane wave is expanded in Bessel

Recently some ships have been constructed with a vertical well which have the bottom opening for the purpose of raising and lowering the equipment. Some examples are vessel-type drilling rigs,
