The relaxation spectra due to the reorientation of diatomic MeH-complexes have been investigated in a large number of alloys of Ni containing small admixtures of other elements Me using the magnetic aftereffect; these alloys, which were preferentially of composition Ni98Me2, have been charged with H and D. Due to the high sensitivity of this technique we were able to investigate complex concentrations even below 100 at-ppm. All impurities Me in Ni investigated formed MeH-(D-) complexes with H(D…

Binding energy of hydrogen-impurity complexes in nickel

Abstract Trapping of hydrogen by substitutional impurity metal atoms (Me) has been studied by means of magnetic relaxation experiments in alloys of Ni. The measured binding energies of the diatomic

An Introduction to Hydrogen in Alloys

Substitutional alloys, both those that form hydrides and those that do not, are discussed, but with more emphasis on the former than the latter. This overview includes the following closely related

Hydrogen Trapping in β-NbHx by Lattice Defects

1H NMR was studied in thin foils of β-NbHx (0.71 ≦ x ≦ 0.86). Three 1H NMR signals, A, B, and C have been observed. Their chemical shift depends on the hydrogen concentration x. The separation of the

Interpretation of the anomalous anelastic relaxation due to trapped hydrogen (deuterium) in substitutional alloys using a statistical model

The anelastic relaxation at intermediate temperatures (100-200K) in metal-hydrogen crystalline systems containing trapping centres presents anomalous features like a shift of the peak temperature and

Diffusion of hydrogen isotopes in amorphous ferromagnets I. Short-range processes studied by magnetic aftereffect†

The magnetic after-effect spectra of hydrogen and deuterium charged amorphous ferromagnets Fe80B20, Fe40Ni40P14B6, and Fe91Zr9 are measured in the temperature range between 4.2 K and RT. For low H,

Hydrogen in Alloys

In comparison to binary metal-hydrogen systems treated in the foregoing chapter, alloy-hydrogen systems to be described here are naturally more complex and need special consideration. Being composed

Investigation of hydrogen-impurity complexes in transition metals

Abstract In ferromagnetic Ni-, Co- and Fe-alloys of transition metals the formation and activation energies for reorientation of diatomic impurity-hydrogen-complexes have been studied by means of

Abstract Thermal neutron scattering experiments have provided detailed information on the distributions of magnetic moment in a number of disordered ferromagnet binary alloys. The general features of

Magnetic disaccommodation of hydrogen and dislocations in metals

SummaryIn ferromagnetic materials hydrogen has been observed to give rise to three types of magnetic relaxations: 1) diffusion aftereffect due to a long-range migration of hydrogen within domain

The magnetic disturbances associated with substitutional impurities in nickel

The disturbances in magnetization around a wide variety of impurities in nickel (Zn, Al, Ga, Si, Ge, Sn, Sb, non-transition metals; Nb, Mo, Ru, Rh, 4d elements; W, Re, 5d elements) have been measured

Magnetic Moment Distributions in Dilute Nickel Alloys

A neutron scattering technique has been developed which enables the spatial distribution of the magnetic moment disturbance around an impurity atom in a ferromagnet to be examined over a distance of

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Magnetic Moments and the Degree of Order in Cobalt-Nickel Alloys

Measurements of the magnetic diffuse scattering of neutrons from a series of cobalt-nickel alloys indicate individual 3d moments at cobalt and nickel sites which have values not significantly

Precipitation and trapping of hydrogen in copper

Abstract Copper samples containing dissolved hydrogen up to a few hundred atomic p.p.m. have been prepared by quenching from equilibrium at higher temperatures. Measurements of the annealing of the
