Association of Antenatal Maternal Ferritin Levels and Preterm Birth in a Tertiary Centre in Malaysia

There is no significant association between maternal antenatal ferritin levels and preterm birth (PTB), and ferritin levels in the second trimester nearly doubled that in the first trimester in the PTB group.

Significance Of Ferritin In Pregnancy Associated Iron Deficiency Anemia, GDM And Other Complications

- Purpose : Analysis of ferritin is very important in pregnancy for predicting risk factors such as GDM, IDA, preeclampsia, preterm delivery, childbirth weight

Increased serum levels of interleukin 6 are associated with severe intraventricular haemorrhage in extremely premature infants

Raised serum IL6 may serve as a marker for severe IVH in infants < 28 weeks of gestational age and the identification of systemic inflammation can help to define the need for anti-inflammatory strategies to prevent cerebral morbidity.

Iron and oxidative stress in pregnancy.

Estimates of gestational iron requirements and of the proportion of iron absorbed from different iron supplemental doses suggest that with present supplementation schemes the intestinal mucosal cells are constantly exposed to unabsorbed iron excess and oxidative stress.

The worldwide incidence of preterm birth: a systematic review of maternal mortality and morbidity.

Developing countries, especially those in Africa and southern Asia, incur the highest burden in terms of absolute numbers, although a high rate is also observed in North America.
