1,5-Bis(acetoxymethyl)tricyclo[2·1.0·02,5] pentan-3-one (1) has been synthesized from 1,2-bis(acetoxymethyl)-3-diazoacetylcyclopropene by dirhodium tetra-acetate-catalysed intramolecular addition of the diazoketone to the cyclopropene double bond; an X-ray crystal structure determination of (1) reveals an extremely short bridging carbon-carbon bond.

The influence of lone-pair repulsions on C–C bond lengths: a critical evaluation of the experimental and theoretical evidence

X-Ray structural data, as well as semiempirical and ab initio molecular orbital calculations, reveal no systematic and substantial difference between the C–C bond lengths of cis and trans
