AbstractThe shear behavior of four full-scale deep beams reinforced with carbon and glass fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars were investigated. The beams were supported over a 3,000-mm span with a projection of 1,000 mm on each side, with a cross section of 300 mm in width and 1,200 mm in depth, and tested to failure under four-point loading. The primary test variables included the longitudinal reinforcement ratio and the reinforcement type. The reinforcement ratio and concrete compressive…

Modelling the ultimate shear behaviour of deep beams with internal FRP reinforcement

Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement in deep beams has been proposed as an alternative to steel reinforcement to increase the durability of members in corrosive environments. Since FRP

RESPONSE OF CONCRETE DEEP BEAMS REINFORCED WITH GFRP BARS AROUND REGIONS OF DISCONTINUITY

This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of using glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars as internal shear reinforcement around openings in concrete deep beams. The study comprised

Feasibility Study on the Effect of FRP Shear Reinforcements on the Behaviour of FRP-Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams

Unlike steel reinforcements in concrete, Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials are light and free from corrosion. Therefore, FRP materials are increasingly being used in structural engineering as

Performance Prediction of GFRP-Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams Containing a Web Opening in the Shear Span

This study aimed to investigate the nonlinear structural behavior of concrete deep beams internally reinforced with glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforcing bars and containing a web opening

Strut Efficiency-Based Design for Concrete Deep Beams Reinforced with Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Bars

In this paper, a strut-and-tie-based model is proposed to predict the shear strength of fiber-reinforced polymer-reinforced (FRP) deep beams. An assessment of the available strut-and-tie models

Concrete Contribution to the Shear Resistance of Fiber Reinforced Polymer Reinforced Concrete Members

This article reports on a study in which seven beams were tested in bending to determine the concrete contribution to their shear resistance. The beams had similar dimensions and concrete strength

High-strength concrete deep beams with effective span and shear span variations

Nineteen reinforced concrete deep beams with compressive strengths in the range of 41 MPa ≤ f' c ≤ 59 MPa (6000 psi ≤ f' c ≤ 8600 psi) were tested under two-point top loading. All the beams were

Proposed Shear Design Method for FRP-Reinforced Concrete Members without Stirrups

An improved method for evaluating the shear resistance of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforced concrete members without stirrups is presented. The effects of shear and moment interaction at

Evaluation of a Modified Truss-Model Approach for Beams in Shear

A limited truss model design approach with variable angle of inclination diagonals and a concrete contribution for beams with web reinforcement is proposed as a viable and economic design tool.

STRENGTH OF STRUTS AND NODES IN STRUT-TIE MODEL

General approaches for determining the effective stress levels of concrete struts and for verifying the bearing capacity of nodal zones in strut-tie models are proposed. The effective stress levels...
