We show that for a relatively light majoron (≪ 100 eV) non-thermal production from topological defects is an efficient production mechanism. Taking the type I seesaw as benchmark scheme, we estimate the primordial majoron abundance and determine the required parameter choices where it can account for the observed cosmological dark matter. The latter is consistent with the scale of unification. Possible direct detection of light majorons with future experiments such as PTOLEMY and the formation…

Exploring the viability of a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson as ultralight dark matter in a mass range relevant for strong gravity applications

We study a simple extension of the Standard Model featuring a dark sector with an ultralight pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson as a dark matter candidate. We focus on the mass range O(10−20–10−10)  eV,

Leptogenesis in Majoron Models without Domain Walls

The emergence of domain walls is a well-known problem in Majoron models for neutrino mass generation. Here, we present extensions of the Majoron model by right-handed doublets and triplets that

Gravitational echoes of lepton number symmetry breaking with light and ultralight Majorons

We formulate a version of the low-scale Majoron model equipped with an inverse seesaw mechanism featuring lepton-number preserving dimension-6 operators in the scalar potential. Contrary to its

Primordial black hole dark matter from catastrogenesis with unstable pseudo-Goldstone bosons

We propose a new scenario for the formation of asteroid-mass primordial black holes (PBHs). Our mechanism is based on the annihilation of the string-wall network associated with the breaking of a

Dynamical inverse seesaw mechanism as a simple benchmark for electroweak breaking and Higgs boson studies

The Standard Model (SM) vacuum is unstable for the measured values of the top Yukawa coupling and Higgs mass. Here we study the issue of vacuum stability when neutrino masses are generated through

Electroweak breaking and Higgs boson profile in the simplest linear seesaw model

A bstractWe examine the simplest realization of the linear seesaw mechanism within the Standard Model gauge structure. Besides the standard scalar doublet, there are two lepton-number-carrying

Insights on the Cosmic Origin of Matter from Proton Stability

We investigate the phenomenology of a model in which the proton is rendered absolutely stable by an IR mechanism that remains robust against unknown quantum gravity effects. A linear combination of

Ultralight scalars in leptonic observables

Many new physics scenarios contain ultralight scalars, states which are either exactly massless or much lighter than any other massive particle in the model. Axions and majorons constitute

Ultralight scalars in leptonic observables

Many new physics scenarios contain ultralight scalars, states which are either exactly massless or much lighter than any other massive particle in the model. Axions and majorons constitute

Neutrino lines from majoron dark matter

Models with spontaneously broken global lepton number can lead to a pseudo-Goldstone boson as a long-lived dark matter candidate. Here we revisit the case of singlet majoron dark matter and discuss

Decaying warm dark matter and neutrino masses.

The lifetime and mass required by cosmic microwave background observations are determined so that the massive majoron provides the observed dark matter of the Universe.

X-ray photons from late-decaying majoron dark matter

An attractive way to generate neutrino masses as required to account for current neutrino oscillation data involves the spontaneous breaking of lepton number. The resulting majoron may pick up a mass

Connecting neutrino physics with dark matter

The origin of neutrino masses and the nature of dark matter are two in most pressing open questions in modern astro-particle physics. We consider here the possibility that these two problems are

Decaying warm dark matter and structure formation

We examine the cosmology of warm dark matter (WDM), both stable and decaying, from the point of view of structure formation. We compare the matter power spectrum associated to WDM masses of 1.5 keV
