Amorphous Ni50Mn38Co6In6 films of 20 μm in thickness are fabricated using dc magnetron sputtering technique. Ex situ annealing studies demonstrate the crystallization at elevated temperature, and the retention of L10 martensite at room temperature. In situ annealing inside a transmission electron microscope reveals the crystallization process as well as the transformation to B2 austenite at elevated temperatures. Differential scanning calorimetry studies show the crystallization activation…

Magnetic field induced phase transformation in polycrystalline NiCoMnAl thin films

NiCoMnAl thin films were deposited onto unheated substrates using dc magnetron co-sputtering. The microstructure of as-deposited films consisted of nanocrystals in an amorphous matrix and did not

Growth of sputter-deposited metamagnetic epitaxial Ni-Co-Mn-In films

Metamagnetic thin films represent a promising geometry for more efficient magnetocaloric cooling applications due to a fast heat transfer. Here, we identify suitable growth conditions to obtain

Annealing effect on the magnetic induced austenite transformation in polycrystalline freestanding Ni-Co-Mn-In films produced by co-sputtering

Ni-Co-Mn-In freestanding films, with a magneto-structural transformation at room temperature were successfully produced by co-sputtering and post-annealing methods leading to film composition

Effects of annealing on phase structure and magnetic characteristics of sputter deposited Ni2FeGa/Si (100) thin films

This paper investigates the effects of post-deposition annealing on the evolution of phase structure and magnetic properties of magnetron sputtered Ni2FeGa/Si (001) thin films. The results revealed...

Manipulation of the Martensitic Transformation and Exchange Bias Effect in the Ni45Co5Mn37In13 Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Alloy Films

The martensitic phase transition and exchange bias effect of the Ni-Mn-based ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAs) Ni45Co5Mn37In13 (Ni-Co-Mn-In) films are investigated in this paper. The

Shape Memory Alloy Bimorph Microactuators by Lift-Off Process

This study aims to develop a new fabrication process to create high-precision patterned shape memory alloy (SMA) bimorph micro-actuators by the e-beam evaporation technique. To examine the effect

Metamagnetic transitions and magnetocaloric effect in epitaxial Ni–Co–Mn–In films

Due to their large strains and multifunctionality, magnetic shape memory alloys are of particular interest for microsystems. Here epitaxially grown metamagnetic Ni–Co–Mn–In films on MgO (001) are

Thermal annealing effects on structural and magnetic properties of Fe46Mn26Ga28 ferromagnetic shape memory alloys

Annealing plays an important role to adjust structures and properties of ferromagnetic shape memory alloys. Thermal annealing effects on structural and magnetic properties of Fe46Mn26Ga28 FSMA have

Crystallization and phase transformations in amorphous NiTi thin films for microelectromechanical systems

Amorphous sputtered nickel–titanium thin films were deposited onto micromachined silicon-nitride membranes and subjected to heating and cooling conditions. Their associated microstructure was

Magnetostructural transformation in Ni–Mn–In–Co ribbons

A series of Ni50−xMn37In13Cox (x=0–9) ribbons was synthesized using the melt-spinning technique. Different ordered structures (5M, 7M, B2, and L21) were formed depending on composition. Both

Giant magnetic-field-induced strain in NiMnGa seven-layered martensitic phase

Giant magnetic-field-induced strain of about 9.5% was observed at ambient temperature in a magnetic field of less than 1 T in NiMnGa orthorhombic seven-layered martensitic phase. The strain proved to

Martensitic and Magnetic Transformation Behaviors in Heusler-Type NiMnIn and NiCoMnIn Metamagnetic Shape Memory Alloys

Martensitic and magnetic transformation behaviors of Ni50MnIn, Ni45Co5MnIn, and Ni42.5Co7.5MnIn Heusler alloys were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), vibrating sample
