The necessity of taking into account the barreling effect at the design of die cavities, and open die and closed die forging processes on the basis of pre-forming of billets by upsetting is shown. The division of ideas about the indices of “bulk” and “linear” barreling (barrel shape), which is determined by the ratio of the bulk and linear dimensions of the workpiece after upsetting by flat dies, was made. The functional relation (correlation) between these indices and the friction coefficient…

Development of Software for Billet Barreling Predicting at the Desing of Metalforming Processes Based on Pre-Upsetting

The development and automation of a methodology for determining the deformation unevenness in the form of barreling during the pre-upsetting of billets with flat dies and the average error between the results of the barrel coefficient calculations according to the developed model and the experimental data is 8.1%.

Prospective cold metal working and analysis of deformation susceptibility of CuMg alloys with high magnesium content

Metal alloys designated for cold metal working exhibit much higher strength properties than pure materials due to solid-solution hardening. However, with the increase of mechanical properties its

Mechanical properties of bulk composites based on aluminum alloy reinforced with CNT with ex-situ TiC layer

The composite powders AlMg6 + 0.3 wt.% CNT and AlMg6 + 0.3 wt.% TiC/CNT were synthesized by the method of high-energy ball milling. Characterization of powders was carried out by methods of scanning

Comparison of Energy-Power Parameters and Electrical Energy Consumption During Cold Rolling with Emulsions at Continuous 4-Stand Mill 1680

The work compares the energy consumption during cold rolling on a four-stand mill 1680 of carbon steel with the use of lubricating-cooling emulsions “Quakerol ZAP 4.0” and “Universal-1TS”. It was

Heterogeneities induced by uniaxial compression and resulting errors in material behavior assessment

A numerical investigation on uniaxial compression tests is performed to highlight the heterogeneous nature of the deformation process. Resulting errors on the material behaviors are deduced from the

Effect of Friction on Barreling during cold Upset Forging of Aluminium 6082 Alloy Solid cylinders

Friction is one of the significant factors in forging operations since it affects metal flow in the die, forming load, strain distribution, tool and die life, surface quality of the product etc. In

Effect of barrel radius on the billet In the Upsetting process

Upsetting is the primary technique to form the material to gain importance in the manufacturing industry. It is well known that the increase in level of deformation increases the hardness of

Experimental Research and Method for Calculation of 'Upsetting-with-Buckling' Load at the Impression-Free (Dieless) Preforming of Workpiece

This paper presents the results of experimental studies of load characteristic changes during the upsetting of high billets with the upsetting ratio (height to diameter ratio) from 3.0 to 6.0, which

Investigation of Barreling Radius and Top Surface Area for Cold Upsetting Ofaluminum Specimens

In this work cold upset forging experiments have been conducted on aluminum 6063 specimens without constraints and without use of lubricants. Strain behavior, barreling radius and top surface area

A Friction Evaluation Method Based on Barrel Compression Test

To further understand the tribological performance in metal forming, it is critical to accurately evaluate the friction between tool and workpiece. However, the unclear contact conditions at the

Rational parameters of profiled workpieces for an upsetting process

An upsetting process of specially profiled workpieces was proposed. Modeling of a workpiece upsetting, profiled as a cylinder with conical and cylindrical ledges was done using a finite element

Friction Coefficient in Hot Compression of Cylindrical Sample

In order to analyze the evolution behavior of friction coefficients during large strain hot forging processes, compression tests were carried out on IHS38MSV hypoeutectoid steel samples at a stroke

Refinement issue of displaced volume at upsetting of cylindrical workpiece by radial dies

By analyzing the problem of upsetting of a workpiece by radial dies, an improved solution for determining the displaced volume was obtained. The value of the displaced volume is the basis for
