Benthic macroinvertebrates were sampled in 88 rivers throughout New Zealand in “runs” under autumn baseflow conditions to study the recruitment and distribution of phytochemical enemies of fish and crustaceans.

Benthic Macroinvertebrate Community of Streams Located in Mt. Gyemyeong, Chungju-si

species richness index (R1) were 0.543 , 2.757 , 0.720 , and 3.590 , respec디vely and the water quality of 외1 sites was ß mesosaprobic.

Microhabitat preferences of benthic invertebrates and the development of generalised Deleatidium spp. habitat suitability curves, applied to four New Zealand rivers

Microhabitat preferences of 12 benthic invertebrate taxa were investigated in four New Zealand rivers. Most taxa showed significant habitat preferences. Generally, taxa were more abundant in water ...

Streams in the Lower North Island - regional patterns in benthic invertebrate communities and the influence of land use

  • 2015
This book discusses how ecoregions predict stream benthic invertebrate communities of the lower North Island and investigates the role of urban streams in shaping these communities.

Chironomid riverine assemblages at the regional temperate scale – compositional distance and species diversity

Chironomids are the most common and abundant benthic invertebrate family in freshwater environments worldwide, but most studies on chironomid assemblages focus on presence/absence of species rather...

Response of littoral macroinvertebrate communities on rocks and sediments to lake residential development

Previously pristine lakes of the Laurentian region of Quebec, Canada, have faced increasing residential development of their watershed since the 1970s. We tested whether littoral invertebrates resp...

Predictors of benthic macroinvertebrate species richness and community structure in Central Swedish streams

Recent studies have indicated that the species composition of the benthic communities of streams is influenced primarily by abiotic factors; biotic processes may be important under benign conditions,

Nitrate-nitrogen effects on benthic invertebrate communities in streams of the Canterbury Plains

XI Chapter 1: Nitrate-‐nitrogen issue, transport, structure, relationships, and aims are reviewed.

The ordination of benthic invertebrate communities in the South Platte River Basin in relation to environmental factors

SUMMARY 1. Spatial patterns of benthic-invertebrate communities were examined in the 62 900 km2 South Platte River Basin in Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming, U.S.A., to determine major environmental

Invertebrate fauna of three streams in relation to land use in Southland, New Zealand

In all three streams the invertebrate community changed in the sections within developed pasture in such a way as to suggest pollution, although no point sources were present.

Periphyton communities and their environments in New Zealand rivers

The composition of periphyton communities was assessed over an extensive range of New Zealand river environments during late‐summer low flows and broad associations developed between communities and several key variables, indicating strong habitat associations by the peripHYton.

Impacts of wetland afforestation on the distribution of benthic invertebrates in acid streams of Westland, New Zealand

Abstract Inter‐relationships between some physical and chemical parameters of streams, the degree of catchment development, and benthic invertebrate distributions were investigated on two dates at 26

Feeding Ecology of Stream Invertebrates

The interactions between temperature and quantity and quality of stream macroinvertebrate food resouces are described and Symbiotic relationships between stream invertebrates and microorganisms are discussed.

Water Quality Assessment of Streams Using a Qualitative Collection Method for Benthic Macroinvertebrates

A standardized qualitative sampling technique was developed and tested for shallow streams in North Carolina and found to be more rapid than a semi-quantitative technique (kick nets), yet produced a greater number of taxa per site.

BENTHIC FAUNAS OF FORESTED STREAMS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR THEIR MANAGEMENT

It is suggested that combined physical-faunal surveys of the kind used in this study have the potential to identify streams which may require particular protection and are correlated significantly with stream stability.

Magnitude of effects of substrate particle size, recent flooding, and catchment development on benthic invertebrates in 88 New Zealand rivers

Taxonomic richness and densities of most collector‐browsers were highest on small cobble‐boulder substrates, however, filterers and a facultative shredder showed strong preferences for large cobbles and boulders and an undescribed orthoclad showed a strong preference for sand.

DISTRIBUTION OF BENTHIC MACROINVERTEBRATES IN A STREAM EXPOSED TO URBAN RUNOFF

: A study of benthic macroinvertebrate community composition was conducted at eight sites along Shabakunk Creek, a small stream in Mercer County, New Jersey, which receives urban runoff. The

Ecological characterisation, classification, and modelling of New Zealand rivers: An introduction and synthesis

These studies provide the first national perspective on water quality and biology in New Zealand's rivers using a consistent methodology and are the first step toward providing managers with robust models for predicting the effects on aquatic biota of changes in flow regimes and catchment land use.

Organic wastewater effects on benthic invertebrates in the Manawatu River

It is suggested that relative indices may be more appropriate than absolute indices for assessing the effects of wastewater discharges on the benthic fauna of the Manawatu River, according to a ranking system based on the occurrence of significant differences between populations at different sites.

Microhabitat preferences of benthic invertebrates in a New Zealand river and the development of in‐stream flow‐habitat models for Deleatidium spp.

Microhabitat preferences of seven groups of New Zealand benthic invertebrates were investigated and habitat suitability functions for use with the instream flow incremental methodology (IFIM) developed for the predominant group, Deleatidium spp.
