Heat stress induces ferroptosis-like cell death in plants
- A. DistéfanoMaría Victoria Martin G. Pagnussat
- 1 February 2017
Environmental Science, Biology
The results suggest a physiological role for this lethal pathway in response to heat stress in Arabidopsis thaliana and suggest that oxidative, iron-dependent cell death programs may be evolutionarily ancient.
Auxin Import and Local Auxin Biosynthesis Are Required for Mitotic Divisions, Cell Expansion and Cell Specification during Female Gametophyte Development in Arabidopsis thaliana
- Aneesh P PanoliMaría Victoria Martin V. Sundaresan
- 13 May 2015
Biology, Environmental Science
Results indicate that both localized auxin biosynthesis and auxin import, are required for mitotic divisions, cell expansion and patterning during embryo sac development.
Role of mitochondria during female gametophyte development and fertilization in A. thaliana.

A mitochondrial ADXR–ADX–P450 electron transport chain is essential for maternal gametophytic control of embryogenesis in Arabidopsis
- A. BellidoA. Distéfano G. Pagnussat
- 19 January 2022
Biology, Environmental Science
It is shown that a plant mitochondrial steroidogenic pathway, dependent on an ADXR–ADX–P450 shuttle, is essential for female gametogenesis and early embryogenesis through a maternal effect.
Characterization and discovery of miRNA and miRNA targets from apomictic and sexual genotypes of Eragrostis curvula
- I. GarbusJ. Selva V. Echenique
- 12 November 2019
Biology, Environmental Science
The results support the hypothesis that in E. curvula the expression of apomixis leads to sexual repression, which is associated with specific microRNA expression.
Genetic Transformation of Apomictic Grasses: Progress and Constraints
- A. BellidoEduado D. Souza CanadáH. PermingeatV. Echenique
- 5 November 2021
Agricultural and Food Sciences, Biology
The current status of the in vitro culture and genetic transformation methods focusing on apomictic grasses, and the prospects for the application of new tools assayed in other related species are reviewed, to pave the way for discovering the molecular pathways involved in apomixis and to develop new capacities for breeding purposes.
Genes Modulating the Increase in Sexuality in the Facultative Diplosporous Grass Eragrostis curvula under Water Stress Conditions
- J. SelvaD. Zappacosta V. Echenique
- 21 August 2020
Environmental Science, Biology
It is suggested that a DNA glycosylase EcROS1-like could be demethylating, thus de-repressing a gene or genes involved in the sexuality pathways in Eragrostis curvula, indicating that some regulators activated by stress could be affecting the apomixis/sexual switch.
From tetraploid to diploid, a pangenomic approach to identify genes lost during synthetic diploidization of Eragrostis curvula
- J. CarballoA. Bellido V. Echenique
- 13 March 2023
Biology, Environmental Science
The results presented here suggest that the genes were lost in Tanganyika INTA during the diploidization process that was conducted to suppress the apomictic pathway, affecting severely the fertility of Victoria cv.
