Prostacyclin signaling regulates circulating ghrelin during acute inflammation.
- L. MadisonJ. Scarlett D. Marks
- 1 February 2008
Medicine, Biology
A model in which the mechanism of inflammation induced decreases in ghrelin are due to the action of IL-1beta on cells within the gastric mucosa that in turn produce prostacyclin as a second messenger is supported.
The apolipoprotein B Q3405E polymorphism has no effect on its low-density-lipoprotein receptor binding affinity
- C. PullingerJ. A. Love J. Kane
- 7 November 1996
Biology
Upon re-examination of apoB100 DNA sequencing discrepancies, a charge-change polymorphism, Q3405E, was found in the putative LDL receptor binding domain of the protein and it was proposed that the presence of an additional negative charge in close proximity could have an impact on the binding affinity.
Let's Get Healthy! Health Awareness Through Public Participation in an Education and Research Exhibit
- L. MarriottWilliam E. Cameron J. Shannon
- 12 September 2012
Education, Medicine
Let's Get Healthy! is an education and research program in which participants visit interactive research stations to learn about their own health, and HIT enables computerized data collection that presents participants with immediate results and tailored educational feedback.
Role of dietary cholesterol in the optimal diet for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia.
- D. IllingworthL. HatcherA. PappuK. NewcombW. Connor
- 1 October 1995
Medicine
Results support the view that restriction of dietary cholesterol leads to a reduction in the plasma concentrations of total and LDL cholesterol and is an appropriate recommendation for patients with known hypercholesterolemia or patients in whom medical recommendations call for a reduced concentration of totaland LDL cholesterol.
Interplay between COVID-19 vaccines and social measures for ending the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic
- G. YoungP. XiaoK. NewcombE. Michael
- 6 March 2021
Medicine, Political Science
A mathematical model of COVID-19 spread incorporating both vaccine dynamics and socioepidemiological parameters indicates the practical importance of continuing with extent social measures while vaccines are scaled up to allow the development of the herd immunity needed to end or control SARS-CoV-2 sustainably.
SUPPRESSION OF ATHEROSCLEROSIS IN CHOLESTEROLEMIC RABBITS BY DIMETHYL SULFOXIDE
- D. LaymanS. AlamK. Newcomb
- 1 June 1983
Medicine
Abstract : The results of this study indicate that DMSO retards the development of dietary cholesterol-induced atherosclerosis in rabbits and suppresses the accumulation of cholesterol in tissues…
Serum Ghrelin Concentrations are Increased in Children With Growth Hormone Insensitivity and Decrease During Long-Term Insulinlike Growth Factor-I Treatment
- Ayşin Uçkun-KitapçiAndrea M. HaqqJ. PurnellK. NewcombH. GulkesenL. Underwood
- 1 January 2008
Medicine
Growth hormone resistance and low IGF-I levels are associated with elevated ghrelin levels, which may potentiate GH secretion and adiposity in children with GH insensitivity syndrome.
Edinburgh Research Explorer Age-and Tumor Subtype-Specific Breast Cancer Risk Estimates for CHEK2*1100delC Carriers
Cumulative risks were calculated on the basis of estimated relative breast cancer risks for CHEK2 *1100delC carriers by using United Kingdom breast cancer incidences from 1992 to 2010 and the ratio of ER-positive and ER-negative breast tumors from the BCAC database.
321 DESCRIPTION OF NOVEL POLYMORPHISMS IN THE CODING AND PROMOTER REGIONS OF THE MELANOCORTIN 4 RECEPTOR GENE IN AFRICAN AMERICANS.
- A. BatraD. Marks J. Purnell
- 1 January 2006
Medicine, Biology
The relationship between mutations in the MC4R gene and its promoter on differences in body composition in populations of older Caucasian, African American, and Hong Kong Chinese men and women potentially offers new insights into central nervous regulation of lean mass and bone density.
