Medicine
Definitions
The clinical picture, the diagnosis and the therapy are presented, and attention is focused on procalcitonin, serum amyloid A, presepsin, presepsin and metabolomics.
Levetiracetam versus Carbamazepine in Patients with Late Poststroke Seizures: A Multicenter Prospective Randomized Open-Label Study (EpIC Project)
- D. ConsoliDomenico Bosco D. Toni
- 1 November 2012
Medicine
This trial suggests that levetiracetam may be a valid alternative to CBZ in poststroke seizures, particularly in terms of efficacy and safety, and shows that LEV has significant advantages over CBZ on cognitive functions.
Soluble CD14 subtype (sCD14-ST) presepsin in critically ill preterm newborns: preliminary reference ranges
- M. MussapE. Puxeddu V. Fanos
- 1 October 2012
Medicine
The results clearly suggest no correlation between GA and sCD14-ST presepsin blood level between 26 and 36 weeks and thus it is reasonable to adopt a unique reference range for preterm newborns.
Metabolomics in newborns with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR): urine reveals markers of metabolic syndrome
The metabolomic analysis showed different urine metabolic profiles between neonates with IUGR and controls and made it possible to identify the molecules responsible for such differences.
Soluble CD14 subtype (sCD14-ST) presepsin in premature and full term critically ill newborns with sepsis and SIRS.
- M. MussapE. Puxeddu V. Fanos
- 7 December 2015
Medicine
Clinica chimica acta; international journal of…
It is found that sCD14-ST presepsin could be introduced in clinical practice as a diagnostic tool for improving the management of neonatal sepsis and non-bacterial SIRS and that in the population of babies with non-infectious SIRs, CRP and sCD 14-ST did not correlate with each other.
Congenital remnants as a cause of neonatal respiratory impairment
- F. CartaR. Caria R. Puxeddu
- 25 June 2017
Medicine
Timely surgical excision through transoral CO 2 laser microsurgery was curative in all the cases and a pharyngeal benign lesion was observed, since teratomas originated from the left lateral wall of the pharynx in two cases and one “fibrovascular” hamartoma originated in the base of the tongue.
Acute kidney injury in neonatal age
- G. OttonelloA. DessìP. NeroniM. E. TruduD. ManusV. Fanos
- 22 October 2014
Medicine
The diagnosis and therapy of AKI, especially in the neonatal period, still present great difficulties and are the subject of ongoing research in the attempt to improve the prognosis of a pathology still featuring high rates of morbidity and mortality.
Metabolomics in paediatric respiratory diseases and bronchiolitis
The present review covers the application of clinical metabolomics in three different areas of respiratory diseases in pediatrics: asthma, pneumonia and bronchiolitis.
Metabolomics in Adult and Pediatric Nephrology
The “multiplatform” study of urine and namely metabolomics can contribute to improving early diagnosis and the outcome of kidney diseases and to evaluating epigenetic modifications determined by external factors.
From ureteric bud to the first glomeruli: genes, mediators, kidney alterations
According with the hypothesis of renal perinatal programing, how a loss or excess of molecular factors governing nephrogenesis may cause the onset of pathologies of different gravity is explained, in some cases leading to a chronic kidney disease at different times from birth.
