The design of the NIR dyes suggests a new scope to search for more efficient upconversion nanohybrids and introduces a bulky moiety, 4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)-1,1'-biphenyl (TPEO), to enhance its quantum yield by suppressing the bond rotation and improve the stability by deactivating the photoinduced oxidation.
A hybrid strategy to enhance small-sized upconversion nanocrystals.
Upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) are characterized by high photostability, narrow spectral bands, excellent tuneability, and low biotoxicity, facilitating a broad range of biomedical applications.…
Nanoparticles give mice infrared vision
The injection of rare-earth-doped upconversion nanoparticles into the eyes of mice allows them to visualize near-infrared light with a wavelength of ~1 μm.

- 28 November 2018
Chemistry, Materials Science
As the first molecular-based thermometer with clear validation of the metal ratio and a fixed distance between the metal pairs, these dinuclear complexes can be used as new materials for temperature sensing and can provide a new platform for understanding the energy transfer between lanthanide ions.
Effects of europium spectral probe interchange in Ln-dyads with cyclen and phen moieties.
