The function of a stem-loop in telomerase RNA is linked to the DNA repair protein Ku
- S. PetersonA. Stellwagen D. Gottschling
- 2001
Biology
It is shown that a 48-nt stem-loop structure within the 1.3-kb TLC1 RNA is necessary and sufficient for disrupting telomeric silencing and shortening telomeres and this short RNA sequence appears to function through an interaction with the conserved DNA end-binding protein Ku.
PCNA Retention on DNA into G2/M Phase Causes Genome Instability in Cells Lacking Elg1
- Catherine O. JohnsonV. K. GaliTatsuro S. TakahashiTakashi Kubota
- 30 June 2016
Biology
It is shown that prolonged retention of PCNA on DNA into G2/M phase is the major cause of genome instability in elg1Δ yeast and that PCNA unloading by Elg1-RLC is critical for genome maintenance.
Heritable chromatin structure: Mapping “memory” in histones H3 and H4
- Christine M. SmithZara W. Haimberger D. Gottschling
- 10 December 2002
Biology
A genetic screen to isolate mutant alleles of the histones H3 and H4 genes that would “lock” telomeric marker genes into a silenced state discovered that each of these mutants had a dramatic reduction in the level of acetylation at lysine 12 within the histone H4 tail, which is proposed to serve as a “memory mark” for propagating the expression state of a telomersic gene.
