本発明は透明な多結晶酸窒化アルミニウムの製造方法に関するものである。 従来の製造方法で製造された酸窒化アルミニウムは、内部に気孔が多く存在し、透明度が落ちるが、本発明はこのような問題を解消したものである。 本発明の酸窒化アルミニウム製造方法においては、原料粉末に添加する焼結添加剤は０．５重量％未満のＭｇＯを含む。 また、原料粉末を相対密度が９５％以上になるように１５５０℃〜１７５０℃で予備焼結させた後、予備焼結より高い相対密度を達成するように１９００℃以上で再焼結する。 本発明によれば、内部の気孔が殆ど除去され、実質的な透明度が９５％以上である立方晶相の多結晶酸窒化アルミニウムセラミックを得ることができる。
