脱塩素活性を高めた土壌の希釈懸濁液を用い, ベンチオカーブ脱塩素菌の性質をしらべた. 懸濁液にアスコルビン酸を添加すると, 澱粉添加の場合よりもベンチオカーブの脱塩素反応は速やかに進行したが, チオグルコール酸または無機の還元剤を添加しても反応はおきなかった. 澱粉を添加した懸濁液中の反応速度はNADPHの添加によって大きく促進され, ADPおよびATPはこれに劣り, アデニンおよびニコチンアミドは反応を促進しなかった. 各種抗生物質による反応の阻害および前報までの結果から, この脱塩素菌はグラム陽性の通性嫌気性菌であると推定された. 脱塩素反応はきわめて低濃度のメトキシフェノンおよびBNA-80, とくにBNA-80によって強く阻害された. 土壌懸濁液中で, ベンチオカーブ類縁化合物のうちp-chloro およびm-chlorophenyl 置換体, N-ジメチルおよびN-ジプロピル置換体, ジチオ誘導体は脱塩素された. しかし, ベンチオカーブのo-chlorophenyl 置換体およびCIPC, CNP, γ-BHC等の他の有機塩素化合物は脱塩素されなかった. 前報の結果と合わせ, ベンチオカーブ脱塩素菌はきわめて限定された条件下で特定の化合物のみを脱塩素する菌であることが示された.
