}OBJECTIVE
Nociceptive and neuropathic components both contribute to pain. [] Key MethodMETHODS
In co-operation with the German Research Network on Neuropathic Pain we developed and validated the painDETECT questionnaire (PD-Q) in a prospective, multicentre study and subsequently applied it to approximately 8000 LBP patients.

Correlation between the Neuropathic PainDETECT Screening Questionnaire and Pain Intensity in Chronic Pain Patients
- Medicine, PsychologyMedicina
- 2021
The findings of the questionnaire suggest that a significant proportion of chronic pain patients had manifested features of NP at the first visit to the outpatient clinic, suggesting that the PD-Q is a useful screening tool to alert clinicians of NP that may need further diagnostic evaluation or therapeutic intervention and may also help to predict treatment response.
Evaluation of the Neuropathic Component of Chronic Low Back Pain
- Medicine, PsychologyThe Clinical journal of pain
- 2019
Using a cut-off value of 19, PDQ identified a neuropathic component in a relatively low proportion of patients with CRS, and QST reveals sensory loss as a frequent abnormality in patients withCRS.

Consistence and discrepancy of neuropathic pain screening tools DN4 and ID-Pain
- MedicineNeurological Sciences
- 2012
Assessing the consistence and discrepancy of two widely used screening tools, The Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4) and the 6-item questionnaire (ID-Pain), by comparing their ability in discriminating neuropathic from nociceptive pain found them to be highly interrelated in the identification of neuropathic pain.
Axial Low Back Pain: One Painful Area – Many Perceptions and Mechanisms
- Medicine, PsychologyPloS one
- 2013
From data used to estimate whether neuropathic pain contributes to axial low back pain and if so to what extent, sensory profiles based on descriptor severity may serve as a better predictor for therapy assessment than pain intensity or sole diagnosis alone.
Short Screening for the Presence of Neuropathic Pain Component - What the Clinical Nurses Need to Know
- Medicine
- 2014
A screening for the presence of neuropathy pain is an important element in the management of cancer pain and nurses should know the contribution of neuropathic pain in cancer pain in clinical practi ce.
Detecting the neuropathic pain component in the clinical setting: a study protocol for validation of screening instruments for the presence of a neuropathic pain component
- MedicineBMC Neurology
- 2014
The aim of this study is to validate the Dutch language versions of the PainDETECT Questionnaire and the ‘Douleur Neuropathique 4 Questions’ (DN4-Dlv) for use in primary and specialist medical care settings to screen for a NePC in patients with chronic pain.
Psychological factors can cause false pain classification on painDETECT
- Psychology, MedicineScandinavian journal of pain
- 2019
Psychological factors including catastrophizing, depression, anxiety, and stress were all influential in producing a higher score on the PD-Q and a high rate of false positive NeP classification was observed which was associated with the presence of anxiety.
Prevalence of Neuropathic Pain Symptoms in Foot and Ankle Patients
- MedicineFoot & ankle international
- 2019
A considerable number of patients with foot and ankle problems requiring surgery had a neuropathic component of pain, and evaluation of their risk factors and level of pain may help with the diagnosis, decision making, and pain control.
Avoiding Catch-22: validating the PainDETECT in a in a population of patients with chronic pain
- Medicine, PsychologyBMC Neurology
- 2018
Despite its internal consistency and test-retest reliability the PainDETECT-Dlv is not an effective screening tool for a neuropathic pain component in a population of patients with chronic pain because of its moderate sensitivity and low specificity.
