The maleku indigenous population around mid-19th century is reconstructed using ethnohistoric and collaborative research field methods. According to the four different calculations made, it is concluded that de maleku indigenous population around mid-19th century oscillated between 1,500 and 2,000 people. In addition, the factors explaining the demographic plummeting and almost annihilation of the maleku as an indigenous group are explored.
