Otopheidomenis ascalaphae is described as new from specimens taken from a noctuid moth, Ascalapha odorata (Linnaeus), collected on Oahu I, Hawaiian Islands. A key to the species of Otopheidomenis is given. Treat (1955) proposed the family Otopheidomenidae and the genus Otopheidomenis to accommodate a single species, 0. zalelestes, collected from a noctuid moth. Sub sequently, 8 additional species of Otopheidomenis were described by Prasad (1968, 1970a, 1970b, 1972, 1973), only 1 of which, 0… Expand

Proposed nomenclature for idiosomal setae in otopheidomenid mites (Acari: Otopheidomenidae) known from sphingid moths (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae)
TLDR
Seven species of otopheidomenid mites known to occur on sphingid or hawk moths (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) are redescribed following the work of Chant and Yoshida-Shaul on the nomenclature of the idiosomal setae of phytoseiid mite. Expand
