We investigated the presence of mRNA for serotonin receptors of type 2C (5-HT2C) in resting lymphocytes by means of RT-PCR and Southern blotting analyses, given their possible role in the pathophysiology of anxiety and eating disorders. At the same time, we explored also the presence of the specific mRNA for 5-HT5A receptors, a novel subtype for which still no functional data exist. Healthy subjects and patients with obsessive-compulsive or bipolar disorders were included in the study. The…

Differential effect of serotonin on cytokine production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells: involvement of 5-hydroxytryptamine2A receptors.
TLDR
The findings suggest that the inhibition of TNF-alpha production by 5- HT involves the participation of the 5-HT(2A) receptor subtypes in PBMC, and support a role of 5-ht in inflammation through its effect on cytokine production inPBMC.
5-Hydroxytryptamine receptors (version 2019.4) in the IUPHAR/BPS Guide to Pharmacology Database
TLDR
Unique amongst the GPCRs, RNA editing produces 5-HT2C receptor isoforms that differ in function, such as efficiency and specificity of coupling to Gq/11 and also pharmacology [40, 482].
Lymphocytes as a neural probe: potential for studying psychiatric disorders
Multiple signal transduction pathways mediated by 5-HT receptors
TLDR
The authors found that 5-HT5A receptors couple to multiple signaling cascades and may contribute to the complicated physiological and pathophysiological states of brain diseases.
Platelets and Serotonin in Migraine
TLDR
Evidence of a bleeding diathesis, including menorrhagia, gum bleeding, gross hematuria, and ecchymosis, in migraineurs is identified, and platelets contain the largest reserve of serotonin stored in the body and thus, platelets may play a role in the etiology of migraine attacks.

TLDR
It is shown that 5-HT2C receptor-deficient mice are overweight as a result of abnormal control of feeding behaviour, establishing a role for this receptor in the serotonergic control of appetite.
