Computational prediction of origin of replication (ORI) has been of great interest in bioinformatics and several methods including GC Skew, Z curve, auto-correlation etc. have been explored in the past. In this paper, we have extended the auto-correlation method to predict ORI location with much higher resolution for prokaryotes. The proposed complex correlation method (iCorr) converts the genome sequence into a sequence of complex numbers by mapping the nucleotides to {+1,-1,+i,-i} instead of…

Identification of replication origins in prokaryotic genomes
TLDR
The main existing approaches to the identification of replication origin (oriC) and termination (terC) loci in prokaryotic chromosomes are described and a number of computational tools based on various skew types and other types of evidence are characterized.
Sequence analysis of origins of replication in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae genomes
TLDR
The GC profile and GC skew were calculated to analyze the compositional bias in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae genome and it was found that the GC profile in the region of ORIs is significantly lower than that in the flanking regions.
AT excursion: a new approach to predict replication origins in viral genomes by locating AT-rich regions
TLDR
The AT excursion method is proposed, which is a score-based approach, to quantify local AT abundance in genomic sequences and use the identified high scoring segments for predicting replication origins.
Identification of replication origins in archaeal genomes based on the Z-curve method.
TLDR
This review aims to provide clues about the locations of as yet unidentified replication origins of the Aeropyrum pernix K1, Methanococcus maripaludis S2, Picrophilus torridus DSM 9790 and Pyrobaculum aerophilum str.

Three methods, based on DNA asymmetry, the distribution of DnaA boxes and dnaA gene location, were applied to identify the putative replication origins in 120 chromosomes. The chromosomes were
Replication-associated strand asymmetries in mammalian genomes: toward detection of replication origins.
TLDR
It is proposed that in mammalian cells, replication termination sites are randomly distributed between adjacent origins, a step toward genome-wide studies of replication mechanisms.

OriDB, the DNA replication origin database updated and extended
TLDR
The OriDB database and web site have been revamped to improve user accessibility to curated data sets, to greatly increase the number of curated origin mapping studies, and to include the collation of replication origin sites in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe.
