There are three binding sites for NtcA (nirI, nirII, and nirIII), the global nitrogen regulator of cyanobacteria, in the DNA region between the two divergently transcribed operons (nirA and nirB operons) involved in nitrate assimilation in Synechococcus sp. strain PCC 7942.
