The direct binding and internalization of acLDL by monocyte-derived macrophages associated with atherosclerotic lesions in the White Carneau pigeon were observed. Using an organ culture labeling protocol, pigeon thoracic aortae containing atherosclerotic lesions were incubated with colloidal gold-acLDL conjugates.
