allowing simple analytical fluorine determination by direct titration or PbCIF precipitation. The low boiling point of trimethylfluorosilane (16.4 °C) was expected to be troublesome, but it was found that trimethylfluorosilane solutions in benzene are very stable even on heating to 80 °C, probably because of the formation of π-complexes. The fluorine yields obtained after radiochemical purification by CaS04 separation and subsequent NH4F sublimation varied between 40 and 60%. The radiochemical… Expand

Radium uptake during barite recrystallization at 23 ± 2 °C as a function of solution composition: An experimental 133Ba and 226Ra tracer study
Abstract High-purity synthetic barite powder was added to pure water or aqueous solutions of soluble salts (BaCl2, Na2SO4, NaCl and NaHCO3) at 23 ± 2 °C and atmospheric pressure. After a shortExpand
Disassembly of old radium sources and conversion of radium sulfate into radium carbonate for subsequent dissolution in acid
In this work details of safe radium source disassembly which were previously used in brachytherapy are described and different methods for conversion of RaSO4 into aqueous solution are reviewed. TheExpand
Characterization of Radium Sulphate
This paper examines the crystal structure of radium sulphate and compares its structure to barium sulphate, strontium sulphate, and lead sulphate. The radium sulphate powder was measured by bothExpand
Superconductivity in the “actinide” elements
Abstract The physical properties of the “actinide” elements, in the seventh row of the periodic table, are reviewed with emphasis on the occurrence of superconductivity and magnetism in Ac throughExpand
Preparation of the high temperature form of curium metal
Abstract The high temperature form of curium metal was prepared by reduction of curium oxide with thorium metal and volatilizing the curium at 1650°C. The high temperature form of curium metal is fccExpand
X-ray diffraction on radioactive materials
X-ray diffraction studies on radioactive materials are discussed with the aim of providing a guide to new researchers in the field. Considerable emphasis is placed on the safe handling and loading ofExpand
Actinide solids 5f dependence of physical properties
This chapter is an introduction to the main concepts underlying the present unterstanding of the physical properties of actinide solids.
