Summary1.Larvae of the tropical Chironomid midge Chironomus strenzkeiFittkau were cultivated with a different haemoglobin content in their blood. The values for pale and dark red fourth-instar larvae were 0.98% and 3.47% (w/w).2.There was no difference in the oxygen consumption of both forms in relation to the oxygen content of the water.
