Cattle are frequently parasitized with an number of protozoan parasites but Giardia duodenalis, Cryptosporidium parvum and Cryptosporidium andersoni are of major zoonotic concern. These parasites case diarrhoea and impair body weight gain. Giardia and Cryptosporidium from cattle are potential zoonotic pathogens and contact with animals, manure or contaminated water is believed to lead to infections in humans.
