In nature, metalloporphyrins are well known for performing many biological functions in aqueous media, such as light harvesting, oxygen transportation, and catalysis. Heme, the iron–porphyrin derivative, is the cofactor for many enzyme/ protein families, including peroxidases, cytochromes, hemoglobins, and myoglobins.
