Epidemiological and experimental studies have revealed that lens epithelial cells exposed to ultraviolet B (UVB) light could be induced apoptosis, and lens epithelial cell apoptosis can initiate cataractogenesis. Posterior capsular opacification (PCO), the most frequent complication after cataract surgery, is induced by the proliferation, differentiation, migration of lens epithelial cells.
