We present the results of a study of non-nuclear discrete sources in a sample of three nearby spiral galaxies (NGC 4395, NGC 4736, and NGC 4258) based on XMM-Newton archival data supplemented with Chandra data for spectral and timing analyses. A total of 75 X-ray sources have been detected within the D25 regions of the target galaxies. The large collecting area of XMM-Newton makes the statistics sufficient to obtain spectral fitting for 16 (about 20%) of these sources. Compiling the extensive…

X-RAY SPECTRAL AND OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF A ULX IN NGC 4258 (M106)

We study the X-ray and optical properties of the ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) X-6 in the nearby galaxy NGC 4258 (M106) based on the archival XMM-Newton, Chandra, Swift, and Hubble Space Telescope

A search for periodicities from a ULX in the LINER galaxy NGC 4736

We report our findings on a new quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) and a long period from the ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) X-2 in nearby galaxy NGC 4736 based on the Chandra and XMM-Newton archival

A close look at the dwarf AGN of NGC 4395: optical and near-IR integral field spectroscopy

Intermediate mass black holes (10$^3$-10$^5$ M$_\odot$) in the center of dwarf galaxies are believed to be analogous to growing Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) in the early Universe. Their

Crossing the Eddington Limit: Examining Disk Spectra at High Accretion Rates

The faintest ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs), those with 0.3–10 keV luminosities 1 < L X / 10 39 < 3 erg s − 1 , tend to have X-ray spectra that are disk-like but broader than expected for thin

Uncovering Red and Dusty Ultraluminous X-Ray Sources with Spitzer

We present a mid-infrared (IR) sample study of nearby ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) using multiepoch observations with the Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) on the Spitzer Space Telescope.

Aşırı-Parlak X-ışını Kaynaklarının Özellikleri ve Çoklu-dalgaboyu Gözlemleri

Asiri-parlak X-isin kaynaklari (AXK, Ultraluminous X-ray sources), X-isin ciftlerinin bir alt sinifi olarak tanimlanmaktadir. Galaksimizde henuz gozlenemeyen AXK'lar, diger galaksilerin merkez

A new, clean catalogue of extragalactic non-nuclear X-ray sources in nearby galaxies

We use the XMM-Newton Serendipitous Source Catalogue to create a catalogue of non-nuclear extragalactic X-ray sources that is both large, containing 1,464 sources, and clean, with steps taken to

The ultraluminous X-ray source population of NGC 4485/4490.

We report the results of spectral and temporal variability studies of the ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) contained within the interacting pair of galaxies NGC 4485/4490, combining Chandra and

A MULTIWAVELENGTH STUDY OF SUPERNOVA REMNANTS IN SIX NEARBY GALAXIES. I. DETECTION OF NEW X-RAY-SELECTED SUPERNOVA REMNANTS WITH CHANDRA

We present results from a study of the supernova remnant (SNR) population in a sample of six nearby galaxies (NGC 2403, NGC 3077, NGC 4214, NGC 4449, NGC 4395, and NGC 5204) based on Chandra archival

Chandra X-Ray Observations of the Spiral Galaxy M81

A Chandra X-Ray Observatory ACIS-S imaging observation is used to study the population of X-ray sources in the nearby Sab galaxy M81 (NGC 3031). A total of 177 sources are detected with 124 located

Extreme X-Ray Behavior of the Low-Luminosity Active Nucleus in NGC 4395

We present the results of a 17 ks Chandra ACIS-S observation of the nearby dwarf spiral galaxy NGC 4395. Chandra affords the first high-quality, broadband X-ray detection of the active nucleus of

Three LINERs under the Chandra X-Ray Microscope

We use observations of three galaxies hosting low-ionization nuclear emission-line regions (LINERs; NGC 404, NGC 4736, and NGC 4579) with the Chandra X-Ray Observatory to study their power sources.

MULTIWAVELENGTH STUDY OF THE BRIGHT X-RAY SOURCE POPULATION IN THE INTERACTING GALAXIES NGC 5774/NGC 5775

A few nearby interacting galaxies are known that host elevated numbers of ultraluminous X-ray sources. Here we report the results of a multiwavelength study of the X-ray source population in the

The Nature of Ultraluminous Compact X-Ray Sources in Nearby Spiral Galaxies

Studies were made of ASCA spectra of seven ultraluminous compact X-ray sources in nearby spiral galaxies: M33 X-8, M81 X-6, IC 342 source 1, Dwingeloo 1 X-1, NGC 1313 source B, and two sources in NGC

The X-ray properties of the nearby LINER galaxy NGC 4736

NGC 4736 is a nearby Sab spiral galaxy, hosting one of the closest examples of a LINER nucleus. We have utilized recent observations by ROSAT and ASCA to characterise the X-ray properties of this

X-Ray Point Sources in the Central Region of M31 as Seen by Chandra

We report on Chandra observations of the central region of M31. By combining eight Chandra ACIS-I observations taken between 1999 and 2001, we have identified 204 X-ray sources within the central

Chandra Discovery of Luminous Supersoft X-Ray Sources in M81

A Chandra ACIS-S imaging observation of the nearby galaxy M81 (NGC 3031) reveals nine luminous soft X-ray sources. The local environments, X-ray spectral properties, and X-ray light curves of the
