Abstract An annealing study has been completed on two compositionally identical Pu-substituted zircons (Zr 0.92 Pu 0.08 SiO 4 ) prepared 18 yr ago with different 238 Pu/ 239 Pu isotopic ratios. The activity and accumulated dose for each material varies greatly due to the very different half-lives of 238 Pu (87.7 yr) and 239 Pu (24 100 yr).
