We present deep X-ray limits on the presence of a pre-explosion counterpart to the low-luminosity Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2017ejb. SN 2017ejb was discovered in NGC 4696, a well-studied elliptical galaxy in the Centaurus cluster with 894 ks of Chandra imaging between 14 and 3 years before SN 2017ejb was discovered. Using post-explosion photometry and spectroscopy of SN 2017ejb, we demonstrate that SN 2017ejb is most consistent with low-luminosity SNe Ia such as SN 1986G and SN 1991bg… Expand

Type Ia supernovae are understood to arise from the thermonuclear explosion of a carbon–oxygen white dwarf, yet the evolutionary mechanisms leading to such events remain unknown. Many proposedExpand

The thermonuclear explosion of massive white dwarfs is believed to explain at least a fraction of Type Ia supernovae (SNIa). After thermal runaway, electron captures on the ashes left behind by theExpand
Investigation of Mechanical Strength of Membrane Structure Consisting of Al/SiO2/Al
Three-layer membrane structures consisting of Al/SiO2/Al were fabricated using silicon group technology. The design of a research stand for determining the mechanical properties of membranes has beenExpand

Upper limits on the luminosity of the progenitor of Type Ia supernova SN 2014J
We analysed archival data of Chandra pre-explosion observations of the position of SN2014J in M82. No X-ray source at this position was detected in the data, and we calculated upper limits on theExpand
Constraints on the progenitor system of the type Ia supernova 2014J from pre-explosion Hubble Space Telescope imaging
We constrain the properties of the progenitor system of the highly reddened Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2014J in Messier 82 (M82; d 3.5 Mpc). We determine the supernova (SN) location using Keck-IIExpand
Upper limits on bolometric luminosities of three Type Ia supernova progenitors: new results in the ongoing Chandra archival search for Type Ia supernova progenitors
We present analysis of Chandra archival, pre-explosion data of the positions of three nearby (< 25 Mpc) type Ia supernovae, SN2011iv, SN2012cu & SN2012fr. No sources corresponding to the progenitorsExpand
Upper limits on bolometric luminosities of 10 Type Ia supernova progenitors from Chandra observations
We present an analysis of Chandra observations of the position of ten nearby (< 25 Mpc) type Ia supernovae, taken before the explosions. No sources corresponding to progenitors were found in any ofExpand
Circumstellar Hα from SN 1994D and future Type Ia supernovae: an observational test of progenitor models
Searching for the presence of circumstellar material is currently the only direct way to discriminate between the different types of possible progenitor systems for Type Ia supernovae. We haveExpand
SUBARU HIGH-RESOLUTION SPECTROSCOPY OF STAR G IN THE TYCHO SUPERNOVA REMNANT
It is widely believed that Type Ia supernovae (SN Ia) originate in binary systems where a white dwarf accretes material from a companion star until its mass approaches the Chandrasekhar mass andExpand
A search for the progenitors of two Type Ia Supernovae in NGC 1316
Recent evidence of a young progenitor population for many Type la supernovae (SNe la) raises the possibility that evolved intermediate-mass progenitor stars may be detected in pre-explosion images.Expand
NO STRIPPED HYDROGEN IN THE NEBULAR SPECTRA OF NEARBY TYPE Ia SUPERNOVA 2011fe
A generic prediction of the single-degenerate model for Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) is that a significant amount of material will be stripped from the donor star (~0.5 M ☉ for a giant donor and ~0.15Expand
Limits on the X-ray and optical luminosity of the progenitor of the type Ia supernova 2007sr
We present Hubble Space Telescope (HST)/Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2), Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) and Chandra observations of the position of the Type la supernova 2007sr in theExpand
Observational Clues to the Progenitors of Type Ia Supernovae
Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) are important distance indicators, element factories, cosmic-ray accelerators, kinetic-energy sources in galaxy evolution, and end points of stellar binary evolution. ItExpand
