The Orion Nebula Cluster and the molecular cloud in its vicinity have been observed with the ACIS-I detector on board the Chandra X-ray Observatory with 23 hr exposure in two observations. We detect 1075 X-ray sources, most with subarcsecond positional accuracy. Ninety-one percent of the sources are spatially associated with known stellar members of the cluster, and an additional 7% are newly identified deeply embedded cloud members. This provides the largest X-ray study of a pre-main-sequence…

Global X-Ray Properties of the Orion Nebula Region

Based on the Chandra Orion Ultradeep Project (COUP) observation, we establish the global X-ray properties of the stellar population associated with the Orion Nebula. Three components contribute

X-Ray Emission from Early-Type Stars in the Orion Nebula Cluster

The X-ray properties of twenty ~1 Myr old O, B, and A stars of the Orion Trapezium are examined with data from the Chandra Orion Ultradeep Project (COUP). On the basis of simple theories for X-ray

An X-Ray Census of Young Stars in the Chamaeleon I North Cloud

Sensitive X-ray imaging surveys provide a new and effective tool to establish the census of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars in nearby young stellar clusters. We report here a deep Chandra X-Ray

Chandra X-Ray Observations of Young Clusters. II. Orion Flanking Fields Data

We present results of Chandra observations of two flanking fields (FFs) in Orion, outside the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC). The observations were taken with the ACIS-I camera with an exposure time of

X-Ray Emission from Young Brown Dwarfs in the Orion Nebula Cluster

We use the sensitive X-ray data from the Chandra Orion Ultradeep Project (COUP) to study the X-ray properties of 34 spectroscopically identified brown dwarfs with near-infrared spectral types between

Chandra X-ray observations of the young stellar cluster NGC 6193 in the Ara OB1 association

A 90-ks Chandra High Energy Transmission Grating observation of the young stellar cluster NGC 6193 in the southern Ara OB1 association detected 43 X-ray sources in a 2 x 2 arcmin 2 core region

A Chandra X-Ray Study of the Globular Cluster M80

We report our analysis of a Chandra X-ray observation of the rich globular cluster M80, in which we detect some 19 sources to a limiting 0.5-2.5 keV X-ray luminosity of 7 × 1030 ergs s-1 within the

An X-Ray and Near-Infrared Study of Young Stars in the Carina Nebula

We present a multiwavelength study of the central region of the Carina Nebula, including Trumpler 16 and part of Trumpler 14. Our analysis of the Chandra X-Ray Observatory archival data led to the

Coronal X-Ray Emission from an Intermediate-Age Brown Dwarf

We report the X-ray detection of the brown dwarf (BD) companion TWA 5B in an ≃12 Myr old pre-main-sequence binary system. We clearly resolve the faint companion (35 photons) separated from the X-ray

Iron Fluorescent Line Emission from Young Stellar Objects in the Orion Nebula

We present the result of a systematic search for the iron Kα fluorescent line at ~6.4 keV among 1616 X-ray sources detected by ultradeep Chandra observations of the Orion Nebula Cluster and the

Chandra X-Ray Observatory Study of the Orion Nebula Cluster and BN/KL Region

About 1000 X-ray emitting young pre–main-sequence (PMS) stars distributed in mass from ∼0.05 M☉ brown dwarfs to a ∼50 M☉ O star are detected in an image of the Orion Nebula obtained with the Advanced

The complete Einstein Observatory X-ray survey of the Orion Nebula region.

We have analyzed archival Einstein Observatory images of a roughly 4.5 square degree region centered on the Orion Nebula. In all, 245 distinct X-ray sources have been detected in six High Resolution

THE X-RAY EMISSION OF A-TYPE STARS

From X-ray images in the ROSAT public archives, we determine soft X-ray fluxes, or flux upper limits, for 74 A-type stars, which have been observed during deep integrations with the PSPC. Nine

Deep ROSAT HRI Observations of the Orion Nebula

We present results from three deep ROSAT high-resolution imager observations of the Orion Nebula star-forming region. The X-ray images contain over 1500 cataloged stars in a roughly 0.8 sq deg region

Large X-Ray Flare from the Herbig Be Star MWC 297

Hard X-ray emissions from the Herbig Be star MWC 297 were discovered in three separate observations spanning 5 days in 1994 April with the Advanced Satellite for Cosmology and Astrophysics (ASCA). An

X-rays from the Orion Trapezium

Observations of the Orion Nebula region and the associated X-ray source 4U 0531-05 with the SAS 3 rotation modulation collimators are presented which yield a precise position for a small component of

An X-ray active region in Orion - X-rays from a Herbig-Haro object
