Campos de murundus (grasslands dotted with knolls that are covered with savanna-like woody vegetation) are a common landscape in central Brazil. In this study, we assessed for the first time the dynamics of the vegetation in a floodplain campo de murundus, describing changes in composition and structure of the woody vegetation. In 2005, we established 16 permanent 25 × 25 m plots, where we identified and mapped individuals with a trunk diameter at the base ≥ 2.86 cm, as well as measuring the…

Man-made soil drainage alters the vegetation structure and woody species distribution in campo de murundus
Campos de murundus work as recharge zones and are important for the maintenance of water resources in Brazilian Cerrado. However, with the expansion of the agricultural frontier, this ecosystem may
Spatial Assessment of Wildfires Susceptibility in Santa Cruz (Bolivia) Using Random Forest
Wildfires are expected to increase in the near future, mainly because of climate changes and land use management. One of the most vulnerable areas in the world is the forest in central-South America,
Recurrent wildfires drive rapid taxonomic homogenization of seasonally flooded Neotropical forests
SUMMARY Recent evidence has shown that most tropical species are declining as a result of global change. Under this scenario, the prevalence of tolerant species to disturbances has driven many
Apresentamos

The murundus of the cerrado region of Central Brazil
Campos de murundus (earthmound fields) are common throughout the cerrado (savanna) in Brazil. They have a clearly defined distribution particularly where they are associated with ground water. There
POST FIRE CHANGES IN THE STRUCTURE AND COMPOSITION OF THE WOODY VEGETATION OF A MESOTROPHIC CERRADO OVER A FIVE-YEAR PERIOD (1997-2002) IN NOVA XAVANTINA, MT, BRAZIL
TLDR
The results show that the fires affected relative species abundance but not overall richness, and the families Fabaceae, Vochysiaceae, Malpighi Families, Erythroxylaceae, Apocynaceae, Combretaceae and Malvaceae showed the highest floristic richness in both inventories.
Tree dynamics of a fire-protected cerrado sensu stricto surrounded by forest plantations, over a 13-year period (1991–2004) in Bahia, Brazil
TLDR
Most species, including many dominant ones, had a positive balance in favor of recruitment and low turnover, indicating that although species immigration rate is high, structural changes in species composition happens at a much slower pace.
Woody community dynamics in two fragments of "cerrado" stricto sensu over a seven-year period (1995-2002), MA, Brazil
TLDR
The community of "cerrado" stricto sensu in the Gerais de Balsas Colonization Project presented high recruitment and mortality rates compared to the studies conducted in other sites, indicating a community that was highly dynamic in the period studied.
Changes in the floristic composition of cerrado sensu stricto in Brazil over a nine-year period
TLDR
Changes in floristic composition and structure in a cerrado sensu stricto area were studied over a 9-y period and suggested a highly resilient community.
Florística dos campos de murundus do Pantanal do Araguaia, Mato Grosso, Brasil
This study aimed to compare angiosperm species richness and composition between floodplain 'murundus' (FM) of Araguaia State Park (ASP) in one of Brazil´s largest floodplains. ASP is located in Novo
A comunidade vegetal e as características abióticas de um campo de murundu em Uberlândia, MG
TLDR
The heigher diversity encountered here in comparison to other published reports may be due to cattle grazing and trampling as well as burning.
Long-term permanent plot observations of vegetation dynamics in Budongo, a Ugandan rain forest
TLDR
The importance of large trees in determining forest dynamics is illustrated by the finding that death of only seven stems in plot 7 contributed over 60% of net basal area losses recorded over the 53-y observation period.
