We prove that the half-BPS Wilson loop operator of N=4 SYM in a symmetric representation of the gauge group has a bulk gravitational description in terms of a single D3-brane in AdS_5xS^5, as argued in hep-th/0604007. We also show that a half-BPS Wilson loop operator in an arbitrary representation is described by the D3-brane configuration proposed in hep-th/0604007. This is demonstrated by explicitly integrating out the degrees of freedom on the D3-branes and showing that they insert a half…

Holographic Wilson loops

We show that all half-BPS Wilson loop operators in = 4 SYM – which are labeled by Young tableaus – have a gravitational dual description in terms of D5-branes or alternatively in terms of D3-branes

On the D3-brane description of some 1/4 BPS Wilson loops

Recently it has been proposed that Wilson loops in high-dimensional representations in = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (or multiply wrapped loops) are described by D-branes in AdS5 × S5, rather

We investigate the M5-brane description of the Wilson surface operators in six-dimensional (2,0) superconformal field theory from AdS/CFT correspondence. We consider the Wilson surface operators in

1/N correction in the D3-brane description of a circular Wilson loop at strong coupling

We compute the one-loop correction to the probe D3-brane action in AdS5 x S5 expanded around the classical Drukker-Fiol solution ending on a circle at the boundary. It is given essentially by the

Semi-classical open string corrections and symmetric Wilson loops

In the AdS/CFT correspondence, an AdS2 × S2 D3-brane with electric flux in AdS5 × S5 spacetime corresponds to a circular Wilson loop in the symmetric representation or a multiply wound one in N = 4

Wilson loops in 3d QFT from D-branes in AdS4×CP3

We study the Wilson loops in three-dimensional QFT from the D-branes in the AdS4×CP3 geometry. We find explicit D-brane configurations in the bulk which correspond to both straight and circular

1 / 4 BPS Wilson Loop in β-deformed Theories

We consider general BPS Wilson loop operators in the N = 1 β-deformed supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and derive the boundary condition satisfied by the dual string worldsheet. The boundary

Vortex loop operators, M2-branes and holography

We construct vortex loop operators in the three-dimensional N = 6 super- symmetric Chern-Simons theory recently constructed by Aharony, Bergman, Jafferis and Maldacena. These disorder loop operators

Operator product expansion of Wilson surfaces from M5-branes

The operator product expansion (OPE) of the Wilson surface operators in six-dimensional (2, 0) superconformal field theory is studied from AdS/CFT correspondence in this paper. We compute the OPE

All-genus calculation of Wilson loops using D-branes

The standard prescription for calculating a Wilson loop in the AdS/CFT correspondence is by a string world-sheet ending along the loop at the boundary of AdS. For a multiply wrapped Wilson loop this

Wilson Loops of Anti-symmetric Representation and D5-branes

We use a D5-brane with electric flux in AdS_5 x S^5 background to calculate the circular Wilson loop of anti-symmetric representation in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory in 4 dimensions. The result agrees

On gravitational description of Wilson lines

We study solutions of Type IIB supergravity, which describe the geometries dual to supersymmetric Wilson lines in = 4 super-Yang-Mills. We show that the solutions are uniquely specified by one

Correlator of fundamental and anti-symmetric Wilson loops in AdS/CFT correspondence

We study the two circular Wilson loop correlator in which one is of anti-symmetric representation, while the other is of fundamental representation in 4-dimensional = 4 super Yang-Mills theory. This

We consider the supergravity backgrounds that correspond to supersymmetric Wilson line operators in the context of AdS/CFT correspondence. We study the gravitino and dilatino conditions of the IIB

Operator product expansion of higher rank Wilson loops from D-branes and matrix models

In this paper we study correlation functions of circular Wilson loops in higher dimensional representations with chiral primary operators of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. This is done using the

Brane dynamics from the Born-Infeld action

Bubbling defect CFT's

We study the gravitational description of conformal half-BPS domain wall operators in N = 4 SYM, which are described by defect CFT’s. These defect CFT’s arise in the low energy limit of a

Multiply wound Polyakov loops at strong coupling

We study the expectation value of a Polyakov-Maldacena loop that wraps the thermal circle k times in strongly coupled N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory. This is achieved by considering probe D3 and D5
