We study the population of compact star clusters (CSCs) in M81, using the Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) images in the filters F435W, F606W and F814W covering, for the first time, the entire optical extent of the galaxy. Our sample contains 435 clusters of full width at half-maximum less than 10 ACS pixels (9 pc). The sample shows the presence of two cluster populations, a blue group of 263 objects brighter than B = 22 mag, and a red group of 172 objects, brighter than… Expand
THE STAR CLUSTER SYSTEM IN THE NEARBY STARBURST GALAXY M82
We present a photometric study of star clusters in the nearby starburst galaxy M82 based on the UBVI-, YJ- and H-band Hubble Space Telescope images. We find 1105 star clusters with V < 23 mag. OfExpand
DISCOVERY OF THE MOST ISOLATED GLOBULAR CLUSTER IN THE LOCAL UNIVERSE
We report the discovery of two new globular clusters in the remote halos of M81 and M82 in the M81 Group based on Hubble Space Telescope archive images. They are brighter than typical globularExpand
On the nature of the brightest globular cluster in M81
We analyse the photometric, chemical, star formation history and structural properties of the brightest globular cluster (GC) in M81, referred to as GC1 in this work, with the intention ofExpand
Structural analysis of disc super star clusters of M82: size and profile shape at intermediate ages
We present the structural parameters of 99 Super Star Clusters (SSCs) in the Disk of M82. Moffat-EFF, King and Wilson models were fitted using a chi^2 minimisation method to background-subtractedExpand
The K-band luminosity functions of super star clusters in luminous infrared galaxies, their slopes and the effects of blending
Super star clusters (SSCs) are typically found in interacting galaxies and trace an extreme form of star-formation. We present a K-band study of SSC candidates in a sample of local luminous infraredExpand
Globular clusters in the far-ultraviolet: evidence for He-enriched second populations in extragalactic globular clusters?
We investigate the integrated far-ultraviolet (FUV) emission from globular clusters. We present new FUV photometry of M~87's clusters based on archival HST WFPC2 F170W observations. We use these dataExpand
The globular cluster/central black hole connection in galaxies
We explore the relation between the total globular population in a galaxy (NGC) and the mass of its central black hole (M•). Using a sample of 33 galaxies, twice as large as the original sampleExpand
A Very Large Array Search for Intermediate-Mass Black Holes in Globular Clusters in M81
Nantais et al. used the Hubble Space Telescope to localize probable globular clusters (GCs) in M81, a spiral galaxy at a distance of 3.63 Mpc. Theory predicts that GCs can host intermediate-massExpand
Wolf-Rayet stars in M81: Detection and Characterization using GTC/OSIRIS spectra and HST/ACS images
We here report the properties of Wolf-Rayet (W-R) stars in 14 locations in the nearby spiral galaxy M81. These locations were found serendipitously while analysing the slit spectra of a sample of ∼Expand
Globular clusters and supermassive black holes in galaxies: further analysis and a larger sample
We explore several correlations between various large-scale galaxy properties, particularly total globular cluster population (N_GCS), the central black hole mass (M_BH), velocity dispersionExpand

HST ACS IMAGING OF M82 : A COMPARISON OF MASS AND SIZE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTIONS OF THE YOUNGER NUCLEAR AND OLDER DISK CLUSTERS
We present the results obtained from an objective search for stellar clusters, both in the currently active nuclear starburst region, and in the poststarburst disk of M82. Images obtained with theExpand
Compact Star Clusters in M81. I. Data from Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 Imaging
In this paper, we present the discovery of 114 compact star clusters in the nearby spiral galaxy M81 from B-, V-, and I-band Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 imaging in eightExpand
COMPACT STAR CLUSTERS IN THE M31 DISK
We have carried out a survey of compact star clusters (apparent size 3'') in the southwest part of the M31 galaxy, based on the high-resolution Suprime-Cam images (175 × 285), covering ~15% of theExpand
ACS imaging of star clusters in M 51. I. Identification and radius distribution
Context. Size measurements of young star clusters are valuable tools to put constraints on the formation and early dynamical evolution of star clusters. Aims. We use HST/ACS observations of theExpand
Compact Star Clusters in M81. II. Two Populations
We present the color and magnitude distributions of compact star clusters discovered in the early-type spiral galaxy M81, from Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 B, V, and I-bandExpand
A View of the M81 Galaxy Group via the Hα Window
We present images for 36 galaxies of the M81 Group obtained in the Hα line. Estimates of the Hα flux and star formation rate (SFR) are now available for all the known members of the group withExpand
Star Clusters in M33. II. Global Properties
We discuss the global physical properties of stellar clusters in M33 and compare them with LMC cluster properties. In a companion paper (Paper I) we have compiled the first unbiased, representativeExpand
Hubble Space Telescope Observations of Star Clusters in M101
Hubble Space Telescope Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) images are used to identify and study star cluster candidates in the nearby spiral galaxy M101. About 3000 round, slightly resolved clusterExpand
ACS imaging of star clusters in M 51 : II. The luminosity function and mass function across the disk
Context. Whether or not there exists a physical upper mass limit for star clusters is as yet unclear. For small cluster samples the mass function may not be sampled all the way to the truncation, ifExpand
Planetary Camera observations of NGC 1275 - Discovery of a central population of compact massive blue star clusters
We have discovered a population of bright blue pointlike sources within 5 kpc of the nucleus of NGC 1275 using HST Planetary Camera observations. The typical object has M_v~- 12 to - 14 (H_0 = 75 kmExpand
