We present cosmological hydrodynamical simulations of the formation of dwarf galax- ies in a representative sample of haloes extracted from the Millennium-II Simulation. Our six haloes have a z = 0 mass of 10 10 Mand show different mass assembly histories which are reflected in different star formation histories. We find final stellar masses in the range 5 × 10 7 10 8 M , consistent with other published simulations of galaxy formation in similar mass haloes. Our final objects have structures… Expand

SIMULATIONS OF ISOLATED DWARF GALAXIES FORMED IN DARK MATTER HALOS WITH DIFFERENT MASS ASSEMBLY HISTORIES
We present zoom-in N-body/hydrodynamics resimulations of dwarf galaxies formed in isolated cold dark matter (CDM) halos with the same virial mass (Mv ≈ 2.5 × 1010 M ☉) at redshift z = 0. Our goalsExpand
The formation of disc galaxies in high-resolution moving-mesh cosmological simulations
We present cosmological hydrodynamical simulations of eight Milky Way-sized haloes that have been previously studied with dark matter only in the Aquarius project. For the first time, we employ theExpand
The effect of metal enrichment and galactic winds on galaxy formation in cosmological zoom simulations
We investigate the differential effects of metal cooling and galactic stellar winds on the cosmological formation of individual galaxies with three sets of cosmological, hydrodynamical zoomExpand
The chosen few: the low-mass haloes that host faint galaxies
Since reionization prevents star formation in most halos below 3 x 10^9 solar masses, dwarf galaxies only populate a fraction of existing dark matter halos. We use hydrodynamic cosmologicalExpand
REPRODUCING THE STELLAR MASS/HALO MASS RELATION IN SIMULATED ΛCDM GALAXIES: THEORY VERSUS OBSERVATIONAL ESTIMATES
We examine the present-day total stellar-to-halo mass (SHM) ratio as a function of halo mass for a new sample of simulated field galaxies using fully cosmological, ?CDM, high-resolution SPH + N-bodyExpand
Cosmological simulations of dwarf galaxies with cosmic ray feedback
We perform zoom-in cosmological simulations of a suite of dwarf galaxies, examining the impact of cosmic-rays generated by supernovae, including the effect of diffusion. We first look at the effectExpand
Simulations of galaxy formation and evolution
We discuss recent results of hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation in a Λ Cold Dark Matter universe, focusing on galaxies of similar mass to the Milky Way, and with a variety of formationExpand
The specific star formation rate and stellar mass fraction of low-mass central galaxies in cosmological simulations
By means of cosmological N-body + hydrodynamics simulations of galaxies in the context of the Λ cold dark matter (ΛCDM) scenario we explore the specific star formation rates (SSFR = SFR/Ms , Ms isExpand
Forged in FIRE: cusps, cores and baryons in low-mass dwarf galaxies
We present multiple ultrahigh resolution cosmological hydrodynamic simulations of M_★ ≃ 10^(4–6.3) M_⊙ dwarf galaxies that form within two M_(vir) = 10^(9.5–10) M_⊙ dark matter halo initialExpand
Local Group dwarf galaxies: nature and nurture
We investigate the formation and evolution of dwarf galaxies in a high-resolution, hydrodynamical cosmological simulation of a Milky Way sized halo and its environment. Our simulation includes gasExpand

Formation of isolated dwarf galaxies with feedback

How do galaxies populate dark matter haloes
For any assumed standard stellar initial mass function, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) gives a precise determination of the abundance of galaxies as a function of their stellar mass over theExpand
Breaking the hierarchy of galaxy formation
Recent observations of the distant Universe suggest that much of the stellar mass of bright galaxies was already in place at z > 1. This presents a challenge for models of galaxy formation becauseExpand
The formation and survival of discs in a ΛcDM universe

Bulgeless dwarf galaxies and dark matter cores from supernova-driven outflows
TLDR
Hydrodynamical simulations in a framework assuming the presence of CDM and a cosmological constant are reported in which the inhomogeneous interstellar medium is resolved and the analogues of dwarf galaxies—bulgeless and with shallow central dark-matter profiles—arise naturally in these simulations. Connecting Galaxies, Halos, and Star Formation Rates Across Cosmic Time
A simple, observationally motivated model is presented for understanding how halo masses, galaxy stellar masses, and star formation rates are related, and how these relations evolve with time. TheExpand
Dark Matter Substructure within Galactic Halos
We use numerical simulations to examine the substructure within galactic and cluster mass halos that form within a hierarchical universe. Clusters are easily reproduced with a steep mass spectrum ofExpand
Stellar Feedback in Dwarf Galaxy Formation
TLDR
Detailed cosmological simulations show that feedback drives large-scale, bulk motions of the interstellar gas, resulting in substantial gravitational potential fluctuations and a consequent reduction in the central matter density, bringing the theoretical predictions in agreement with observations.
