Wear resistant coatings were produced on a permanent mould cast MRI 230D Mg alloy by (a) PEO in silicate based electrolyte, (b) PEO in phosphate based electrolyte, (c) hybrid coatings of silicate PEO followed by laser surface alloying (LSA) with Al and Al2O3, and (d) hybrid coatings of phosphate PEO followed by LSA with Al and Al2O3. Microstructural characterization of the coatings was carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X(ray diffraction. The tribological behavior of the…

Effect of laser surface treatment on corrosion and wear resistance of ACM720 Mg alloy
A creep resistant Mg alloy ACM720 was subjected to laser surface treatment using Nd:YAG laser equipped with a fiber optics beam delivery system in argon atmosphere. This treatment was found to be
Laser surface cladding of MRI 153M magnesium alloy with (Al+Al2O3)
Laser surface cladding was carried out on a creep-resistant MRI 153M magnesium alloy with a mixture of Al and Al2O3 powders using a pulsed Nd:YAG laser at scan speeds of 21, 42, 63 and 84 mm/s. The
Dissimilar joining of Al/Mg light metals by compound casting process
Abstract“Compound casting” was used for production of lightweight Al/Mg couples. In order to prepare the Al/Mg couples using this process, each of the aluminum and magnesium molten metal was cast
Microstructures in friction-stir welded dissimilar magnesium alloys and magnesium alloys to 6061-T6 aluminum alloy
Wrought Mg alloy AZ31B-H24 and semisolid-cast Mg alloy AZ91D (approximately 3% primary solid fraction) were friction-stir welded to Al alloy 6061-T6. Semisolid-cast (approximately 3% and
Microstructure characteristics in TIG welded joint of Mg/Al dissimilar materials
Abstract The microstructure performance of Mg/Al TIG welded joint was studied by means of metallography, micro-hardness test and SEM. The test results indicate that the structure close to weld metal
Microstructure of Dissimilar Joint Interface of Magnesium Alloy and Aluminum Alloy by Friction Stir Welding
Friction stir welding (FSW) shows significant advantages in the joining of aluminum alloys in recent years. In this paper, the feasibility of FSW for magnesium joints and magnesium to aluminum
A review of laser welding techniques for magnesium alloys
Abstract Laser welding will be an important joining technique for magnesium alloys with their increasing applications in aerospace, aircraft, automotive, electronics and other industries. In this
Al-to-Mg Friction Stir Welding: Effect of Material Position, Travel Speed, and Rotation Speed
Because joining dissimilar metals is often difficult by fusion joining, interest has been growing rapidly in using friction stir welding (FSW), which is considered a revolutionary solid-state welding
Dissimilar friction stir welding between 5052 aluminum alloy and AZ31 magnesium alloy
Abstract Dissimilar friction stir welding between 5052 Al alloy and AZ31 Mg alloy with the plate thickness of 6 mm was investigated. Sound weld was obtained at rotation speed of 600 r/min and welding
Microstructure and XRD analysis in the interface zone of Mg/Al diffusion bonding
Abstract The microstructure and phase constituent for the Mg/Al diffusion bonded joint were studied via scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The test results indicated that
