Wavelet representation of large digital terrain models


Average interpolating wavelets are used to construct multilevel representations of large data sets. The data are partitioned into disjoint blocks, and each block is transformed separately. A new implementation of the wavelet algorithm guarantees that this partitioning does not introduce artificial boundary effects. Coefficients are organized in a data structure that is well suited for real-time visualization with zoom functionality. r 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
