The wavelength switching dynamics of two-colour semiconductor lasers with optical injection and feedback are presented. These devices incorporate slotted regions etched into the laser ridge waveguide for tailoring the output spectrum. Experimental measurements are presented demonstrating that optical injection in one or both modes of these devices can induce wavelength bistability. Measured switching dynamics with modulated optical injection are shown to be in excellent agreement with numerical…

Reducing the sensitivity of semiconductor ring lasers to external optical injection using selective optical feedback

We numerically investigate the influence of an integrated filtered optical feedback on the behavior of a semiconductor ring laser subject to external optical injection. The optical injection is

Stability of Optically Injected Two‐State Quantum‐Dot Lasers

Simultaneous two‐state lasing is a unique property of semiconductor quantum‐dot (QD) lasers. This not only changes steady‐state characteristics of the laser device but also its dynamic response to

Mode Competition Induced by Optical Feedback in Two-Color Quantum Dot Lasers

We investigate theoretically the impact of optical feedback on quantum dot two-color laser dynamics when emitting from both the excited and the ground states. Detailed analysis of the laser dynamics

Mode-coupling effects in an optically-injected dual-wavelength laser.

Lasers designed to emit at multiple and controllable modes, or multi-wavelength lasers, have the potential to become key building blocks for future microwave photonic technologies. While many

Optical injection and mode-coupling effects in two-color lasers

Laser designed to emit at multiple and controllable modes, or multi-wavelength lasers, have the potential to become key building blocks in future compact THz or mm-wave transceivers. Combined with

Control of dual-wavelength laser emission via optical feedback phase tuning

—We propose and demonstrate a technique to control the balance between the two amplitudes of a dual-wavelength laser based on a phase-controlled optical feedback. The feedback cavity length is

Temporal response of optical intensity modulation based on side-mode injection locked single-mode Fabry–Pérot laser diode

In this paper, we have experimentally demonstrated time domain characteristics of all-optical intensity modulation using cross-gain modulation induced by side-mode injection locking in a single-mode

Tunable Two-Color Lasing Emission Based on Fabry-Pérot Laser Diode Combined With External Cavity Feedback

In this paper, two-color lasing emission is experimentally demonstrated by employing a multimode Fabry-Pérot laser diode (MMFP-LD) associated with external cavity of two tunable filters and an

Injection-induced, tunable all-optical gating in a two-state quantum dot laser.

A tunable all-optical gating phenomenon in a single-section quantum dot laser that can induce a switch to emission from the ground state with complete suppression of the excited state is demonstrated.

Optical bistability in side-mode injection locked dual-mode Fabry-Pérot laser diode

In this paper, optical bistability characteristics are demonstrated experimentally based on a dual-mode laser system comprising a multi-mode Fabry-Perot laser diode (MMFP-LD) and a built-in feedback
