A catalogue of the water mites of the genus Neumania Lebert is given for the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. Morphological details and taxonomical position are discussed. For each species, geographical distribution and habitat preference are given. The following synonyms are established: Neumania algeriensis Bader, 1989 = N. seurati Walter, 1931; N. atlantida Lundblad, 1942 = N. uncinata Walter, 1927. The synonymization of N. agilis Koenike, 1916 with N. limosa (Koch, 1836) is…

A CHECKLIST OF THE WATER MITES OF FRANCE (ACARI: HYDRACHNIDIA)
TLDR
A review is given of all species reported from France, especially of species from standing waters, which contain geographical information about their occurrence in France.
Neumania kyrgyzica sp. nov. a new water mite from Kyrgyzstan based on morphological and molecular data (Acari, Hydrachnidia: Unionicolidae)
TLDR
Morphological data and DNA barcoding were used to describe a new species of the genus Neumania from Kyrgyzstan that seems to be most similar to N. alticola (Stoll, 1887), an abundant and widespread species in the extreme northern Neotropics.
Three similar water mites of Neumania identified by morphological features and COI data from China (Acari: Hydrachnidia: Unionicolidae)
TLDR
Three water mite species, which are similar in the morphology of the genus Neumania from China, and two new species are described, which include morphological features and DNA barcoding data, and a discussion of their taxonomic status follows.
Water mites of Corsica: DNA barcode and morphological evidences
ABSTRACT Water mites are a significant component of freshwater ecosystems. On Corsica (France) they are inhabiting mainly running waters. DNA barcodes of 84 specimens morphologically assigned to 27
Prey abundance supporting unusual water mite (Acari: Hydrachnidia) community in a sublacustrine spring and tributary river
TLDR
Greater copepod, ceratopogonid and chironomid abundances were found to positively correlate with higher abundances of water mites, and the population of Limnesia connata was most probably supported by vast prey availability, thus unexpectedly surviving in this karst environment.
WATER MITES FROM FUERTEVENTURA, CANARY ISLANDS, SPAIN (ACARI: HYDRACHNIDIA)
  • H. Smit
  • Environmental Science, Biology
  • 2017
TLDR
One species new to science is described, Neumania fortiventa while Arrenurus pervius Walter is synonymized with A. caesaraugustanus Viets, a rare species only known from temporary and/or saline ponds in semiarid climate.
The water mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia) of the standing waters of Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily: review and new data
TLDR
A compilation of present knowledge of the water mites adapted to life in standing waters on the three large islands in the western Mediterranean (Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily) is provided, with a rich volume of new material from recent field work.
