Houttuynia cordata Thunb. is used in folk medicine for diuresis and detoxification. However, it has not yet been reported to have an anti-obesity effect. We found that the water extract of H. cordata leaves (WEH) inhibited the corn oil-induced increase in plasma triglyceride levels in mice. WEH also inhibited the oleic acid- and glycerol-induced increase in the levels of plasma nonesterified fatty acids and glycerol, respectively. Moreover, WEH had anti-obesity effects in mice with high-fat…

Suppressive Effects by Leaves of the Dypsis lutescens Palm on Fat Accumulation in 3T3-L1 Cells and Fat Absorption in Mice

The methanol extract of Dypsis lutescens leaves showed inhibitory effects on lipase activity in vitro and on triglyceride accumulation in 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes and an anti-obesity effect on obese mice induced by a high-fat diet.

Protective effects of Houttuynia cordata aqueous extract in mice consuming a high saturated fat diet.

It is shown that Houttuynia cordata aqueous extract is a potent food against HFD induced obesity, and oxidative and inflammatory injury.

Effects of Fermented Houttuynia cordata Thunb. on Diabetic Rats Induced by a High-Fat Diet with Streptozotocin and on Insulin Resistance in 3T3-L1 Adipocytes

Results demonstrate that HC can improve diabetic symptoms by enhancing insulin sensitivity, reducing oxidative stress, and suppressing inflammation.

Antiatherogenic and antioxidative effects of Houttuynia cordata extracts in rats fed a high-fat diet

It is suggested that the ethanolic extracts from H. cordata reduces atherogenic risk and hepatic oxidative damage induced by HFD consumption in rats.

Rhus verniciflua leaf extract suppresses obesity in high-fat diet-induced obese mice

Rv-PEM01-99, containing a quercetin derivative, showed anti-obesity effect in HFD-fed mice and could therefore be useful as food material and/or nutritional supplement for management of obesity.

Antiobesity Effects of Chinese Black Tea (Pu‐erh Tea) Extract and Gallic Acid

GA contributes to the antiobesity effect of BTE as an active constituent by inhibiting pancreatic lipase activity, which is strongly correlated with the body weight.

An Asian traditional herbal complex containing Houttuynia cordata Thunb, Perilla frutescens Var. acuta and green tea stimulates hair growth in mice

This data provides adequate preliminary experimental evidence to support the hair regeneration effect of this herbal complex, which has not been clearly demonstrated in the animal model.

Pharmaceutical Impact of Houttuynia Cordata and Metformin Combination on High-Fat-Diet-Induced Metabolic Disorders: Link to Intestinal Microbiota and Metabolic Endotoxemia

Overall, HCE and metformin cooperatively exert their therapeutic effects via modulation of gut microbiota, especially reduction of Gram-negative bacteria, resulting in alleviation of endotoxemia.

Anti-obesity effects in rodents of dietary teasaponin, a lipase inhibitor

The anti-obesity effects of teasaponin in high-fat diet-treated mice may be partly mediated through delaying the intestinal absorption of dietary fat by inhibiting pancreatic lipase activity.

The results suggest that the anti-obesity and hypolipidemic effects of Ginseng in high-fat diet-treated mice were attributed to the isolated saponin fraction, and these metabolic effects of the ginseng saponins may be mediated by inhibition of pancreatic lipase activity.
