REFERENCE to “The Life-History of the Liver Fluke,” by A. P. Thomas (Q.J.M.S., 23, 1883), or indeed to almost any text-book in zoology, will show Mr. Stelfox that in order to become infected it is not necessary for sheep to eat the intermediate snail host of Fasciola hepatica. It suffices that the encysted cercariæ be swallowed. The latter may be found at considerable distances from their snail host, for the tailed cercariæ which give rise to the encysted forms exist as such for about a week… Expand
Snail Hosts of Fasciola hepática in Britain.
TLDR
Experimental evidence is presented to show that Limnaea truncatula is not the only British snail susceptible to infection with Fasciola hepatica, and that the parasite appeared to be relatively pathogenic to hosts other than L. trunCatula. Expand

TLDR
Evidence is presented indicating that Lymnaea truncatula is not the only possible vector of Fasciola hepatica in Belgium, and the size of the experienced snails appeared to be influenced by the infection. Expand
Hydrolysis of Starch Grains by Polarized Infra-Red Radiation
TLDR
It was shown that polarized radiation had the effect of accelerating the change of starch grains, in a weak suspension of diastase and at ordinary laboratory temperature, into a crystalline reducing substance; but if the diast enzyme were active or concentrated, no selective effect was observed.
Expand
