Abstract We assay how inflationary models whose properties are dominated by the dynamics of a single scalar field are constrained by cosmic microwave background (CMB) data from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP). We classify inflationary models in a plane defined by the horizon-flow parameters. Our approach differs from that of the WMAP Collaboration in that we analyze only WMAP data and take the spectral shapes from slow-roll inflation rather than power-law parameterizations of… Expand
Inflationary physics from the Wilkinson microwave anisotropy probe
We extract parameters relevant for distinguishing among single-field inflation models from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data set, and from a combination of the WMAP data and sevenExpand
Primordial fluctuations and cosmological inflation after WMAP 1.0
The observational constraints on the primordial power spectrum have tightened considerably with the release of the first-year analysis of the WMAP observations, especially when combined with theExpand
Boundary inflation and the WMAP data
Inflation in a five-dimensional brane world model with two boundary branes is studied. We make use of the moduli space approximation whereby the low energy theory reduces to a four-dimensionalExpand
Constraints on braneworld inflation from CMB anisotropies
We obtain observational constraints on Randall–Sundrum type II braneworld inflation using a compilation of data including WMAP, the 2dF and latest SDSS galaxy redshift surveys. We place constraintsExpand
Inflation after WMAP3
I discuss the current status of inflationary cosmology in light of the recent WMAP 3-year data release. The basic predictions of inflation are all supported by the data. Inflation also makesExpand

THE EFFECTIVE THEORY OF INFLATION IN THE STANDARD MODEL OF THE UNIVERSE AND THE CMB+LSS DATA ANALYSIS
Inflation is part of the Standard Model of the Universe supported by CMB and large scale structure LSS datasets. This review presents new developments of inflation in three main chapters. (I): TheExpand
Non-parametric reconstruction of the primordial power spectrum at horizon scales from WMAP data
We extend to large scales a method proposed in previous work that reconstructs non-parametrically the primordial power spectrum from cosmic microwave background data at high resolution. TheExpand
Considerations in optimizing CMB polarization experiments to constrain inflationary physics
We quantify the limiting factors in optimizing current-technology cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization experiments to learn about inflationary physics. We consider space-based,Expand
Weak lensing and CMB: Parameter forecasts including a running spectral index
We use statistical inference theory to explore the constraints from future galaxy weak lensing (cosmic shear) surveys combined with the current CMB constraints on cosmological parameters, focusingExpand

New constraints on inflation from the cosmic microwave background
The recent data from the BOOMERANG and MAXIMA-1 balloon flights have marked the beginning of the precision era of cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy measurements. We investigate theExpand
Inflationary gravity waves in light of recent cosmic microwave background anisotropies data
One of the major predictions of inflation is the existence of a stochastic background of cosmological gravitational waves (GW). These gravitational waves can induce significant temperatureExpand
The cold dark matter density perturbation
Abstract The outstanding problem in cosmology today is undoubtedly the origin and evolution of large scale structure. In this context, no model has proved as successful as the standard Cold DarkExpand
Particle physics models of inflation and the cosmological density perturbation
This is a review of particle-theory models of inflation, and of their predictions for the primordial density perturbation that is thought to be the origin of structure in the Universe. It containsExpand
Reconstructing the inflaton potential—an overview
The authors review the relation between the inflationary potential and the spectra of density waves (scalar perturbations) and gravitational waves (tensor perturbations) produced, with particularExpand
Cosmological parameter estimation and the inflationary cosmology
We consider approaches to cosmological parameter estimation in the inflationary cosmology, focusing on the required accuracy of the initial power spectra. Parametrizing the spectra, for example byExpand
Cosmological parameters from CMB and other data: A Monte Carlo approach
We present a fast Markov chain Monte Carlo exploration of cosmological parameter space. We perform a joint analysis of results from recent cosmic microwave background ~CMB! experiments and provideExpand
Observational Evidence from Supernovae for an Accelerating Universe and a Cosmological Constant

Higher order corrections to primordial spectra from cosmological inflation
Abstract We calculate power spectra of cosmological perturbations at high accuracy for two classes of inflation models. We classify the models according to the behaviour of the Hubble distance duringExpand
Inflationary universe: A possible solution to the horizon and flatness problems
The standard model of hot big-bang cosmology requires initial conditions which are problematic in two ways: (1) The early universe is assumed to be highly homogeneous, in spite of the fact thatExpand
