We have made an extensive survey of emission-line stars in the IC 1396 H ii region to investigate the low-mass population of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars. A total of 639 Hα emission-line stars were detected in an area of 4.2 deg2 and their i′ photometry was measured. Their spatial distribution exhibits several aggregates near the elephant trunk globule (Rim A) and bright-rimmed clouds at the edge of the H ii region (Rim B and SFO 37, 38, 39, 41), and near HD 206267, which is the main exciting…

A NEW Hα EMISSION-LINE SURVEY IN THE ORION NEBULA CLUSTER

We present results from an Hα emission line survey in a 1 deg2 area centered on the Orion Nebula Cluster, obtained with the Wide Field Grism Spectrograph 2 on the 2.2 m telescope of the University of

Spectroscopic Survey of Hα Emission Line Stars Associated with Bright Rimmed Clouds

The results of a spectroscopic survey of Hα emission line stars associated with fourteen bright rimmed clouds are presented. Slit-less optical spectroscopy was carried out with the Inter University

Sequential clustering of star formation in IC 1396

We present a comprehensive study of the H II region IC 1396 and its star forming activity, in which multi-wavelength data ranging from the optical to the near- and far-infrared were employed. The

Near-infrared Variability of Low-mass Stars in IC 1396A and Tr 37

We have monitored nearly a square degree in IC 1396A/Tr 37 over 21 epochs extending over 2014–2016 for sources variable in the JHK bands. In our data, 65% ± 8% of previously identified cluster

Efficient Selection and Classification of Infrared Excess Emission Stars Based on AKARI and 2MASS Data

The selection of young stellar objects (YSOs) based on excess emission in the infrared is easily contaminated by post-main-sequence stars and various types of emission line stars with similar

High-resolution Near-infrared Observations of a Small Cluster Associated with a Bright-rimmed Cloud in W5

We carried out near-infrared (IR) observations to examine star formation toward the bright-rimmed cloud SFO 12, of which the main exciting star is O7V star in W5-W. We found a small young stellar

Magnetic fields in multiple bright-rimmed clouds in different directions of H II region IC 1396

Bright-rimmed clouds form on the edges of H II regions affected by the high energy radiation from a central ionizing source. The UV radiation from the ionizing source results in compression and

A survey for variable young stars with small telescopes: First results from HOYS-CAPS

Variability in Young Stellar Objects (YSOs) is one of their primary characteristics. Long-term, multi-filter, high-cadence monitoring of large YSO samples is the key to understand the partly unusual

Young stellar population of bright-rimmed clouds BRC 5, BRC 7 and BRC 39

Bright-rimmed clouds (BRCs), illuminated and shaped by nearby OB stars, are potential sites of recent/ongoing star formation. Here we present an optical and infrared photometric study of three BRCs:

NEW YOUNG STAR CANDIDATES IN BRC 27 AND BRC 34

We used archival Spitzer Space Telescope mid-infrared data to search for young stellar objects (YSOs) in the immediate vicinity of two bright-rimmed clouds, BRC 27 (part of CMa R1) and BRC 34 (part

Clustering of Emission-Line Stars in the W 5 E H ii Region

We have made a new survey of emission-line stars in the W5E HII region to investigate the population of PMS stars near the OB stars by using the Wide Field Grism Spectrograph 2 (WFGS2). A total of

TRIGGERED STAR FORMATION AND YOUNG STELLAR POPULATION IN BRIGHT-RIMMED CLOUD SFO 38

We have investigated the young stellar population in and around SFO 38, one of the massive globules located in the northern part of the Galactic H ii region IC 1396, using the Spitzer IRAC and MIPS

A Study of Intermediate-Mass Stars in Trumpler 37

We present results from optical spectra for intermediate-mass stars in the young cluster Trumpler 37. The spectroscopy presented helps to refine the membership, reddening (AV ∼ 1.5 ± 0.5), and

X-Ray Study of Triggered Star Formation and Protostars in IC 1396N

The IC 1396N cometary globule (CG) within the large nearby H II region IC 1396 has been observed with the ACIS detector on board the Chandra X-Ray Observatory. We detect 117 X-ray sources, of which

Hα Emission Stars and Herbig-Haro Objects in the Vicinity of Bright-rimmed Clouds

Bright-rimmed clouds (BRCs) found in H II regions are probably sites of triggered star formation due to compression by ionization/shock fronts. Many BRCs harbor IRAS point sources of low dust
