We propose to induce topological defects in particle-hole symmetric superfluids, with the prime example of the BCS state of ultracold atoms and detect their time evolution and decay. We demonstrate that the time evolution is qualitatively distinct for particle-hole symmetric superfluids, and point out that the dynamics of topological defects is strongly modified in particle-hole symmetric fluids. We obtain results for different charges and compare them with the standard Gross-Pitaevskii… Expand

Motion of a solitonic vortex in the BEC-BCS crossover.
A long-lived solitary wave in a superfluid Fermi gas of (6)Li atoms after phase imprinting is observed, and its period and the correspondingly large ratio of the inertial to the bare mass of the vortex are in good agreement with estimates based on superfluid hydrodynamics. Expand
Vortex line and ring dynamics in trapped Bose-Einstein condensates
Vortex dynamics in inhomogeneous Bose-Einstein condensates are studied numerically in two and three dimensions. We simulate the precession of a single vortex around the center of a trappedExpand
Relativistic superfluidity and vorticity from the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation
We investigate superfluidity, and the mechanism for creation of quantized vortices, in the relativistic regime. The general framework is a nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation in curved spacetime for aExpand
Asymptotically solvable model for a solitonic vortex in a compressible superfluid
Vortex motion is a complex problem due to the interplay between the short-range physics at the vortex core level and the long-range hydrodynamical effects. Here we show that the hydrodynamicExpand
Chladni solitons and the onset of the snaking instability for dark solitons in confined superfluids.
Complex solitary waves composed of intersecting vortex lines are predicted in a channeled superfluid. Their shapes in a cylindrical trap include a cross, spoke wheels, and Greek Φ, and trace theExpand
Vortices in spatially inhomogeneous superfluids
We study vortices in a radially inhomogeneous superfluid, as realized by a trapped degenerate Bose gas in a uniaxially symmetric potential. We show that, in contrast to a homogeneous superfluid, anExpand
Rotational Dynamics of Vortices in Confined Bose-Einstein Condensates
We derive the frequency of precession and conditions for stability for a quantized vortex in a single-component and a two-component Bose-Einstein condensate. The frequency of precession isExpand

Motion of vortices in inhomogeneous Bose-Einstein condensates
We derive a general and exact equation of motion for a quantized vortex in an inhomogeneous two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate. This equation expresses the velocity of a vortex as a sum ofExpand
Vortex Dynamics in Dissipative Systems
We derive the exact equation of motion for a vortex in twoand three-dimensional nonrelat systems governed by the Ginzburg-Landau equation with complex coefficients. The velocity is in terms of localExpand
