We describe an algorithm to detect voids in galaxy redshift surveys. The method is based on the void finder algorithm of El-Ad & Piran. We apply a series of tests to determine how accurately we are able to recover the volumes of voids using our detection method. We simulate voids of different ellipticity and find that if voids are approximately spherical, our algorithm will recover 100% of the volume of the void. The more elliptical the void, the smaller the fraction of the volume we can…

A robust public catalogue of voids and superclusters in the SDSS Data Release 7 galaxy surveys

The study of the interesting cosmological properties of voids in the Universe depends on the efficient and robust identification of such voids in galaxy redshift surveys. Recently, Sutter et al. have

Voids in the Two-Degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey

We present an analysis of voids in the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS). This analysis includes identification of void regions and measurement of void statistics. The 2dFGRS is the largest

THE SIZE, SHAPE, AND ORIENTATION OF COSMOLOGICAL VOIDS IN THE SLOAN DIGITAL SKY SURVEY

We present a detailed description of our void finding algorithm which is an extension of the prescription by Hoyle and Vogeley. We include a discussion of the reproducibility and robustness of the

The VIMOS Public Extragalactic Redshift Survey - Searching for Cosmic Voids

The characterisation of cosmic voids gives unique information about the large-scale distribution of galaxies, their evolution and the cosmological model. We identify and characterise cosmic voids in

Statistics of voids in the two‐degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey

We present a statistical analysis of voids in the two-degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS). In order to detect the voids, we have developed two robust algorithms. We define voids as

Cosmic Voids in Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7

We study the distribution of cosmic voids and void galaxies using Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 (SDSS DR7). Using the VoidFinder algorithm as described by Hoyle & Vogeley (2002), we

Lensing Measurements of the Mass Distribution in SDSS Voids

We measure weak lensing mass profiles of voids from a volume-limited sample of SDSS Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs). We find voids using an algorithm designed to maximize the lensing signal by dividing

Voids in the 2dFGRS and ΛCDM simulations: spatial and dynamical properties

We perform a statistical study on the distribution and dynamics of voids in the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS). Our statistics are tested and calibrated using mock 2dFGRS catalogues. We analyse

Cosmic voids and void lensing in the Dark Energy Survey Science Verification data

Galaxies and their dark matter halos populate a complicated filamentary network around large, nearly empty regions known as cosmic voids. Cosmic voids are usually identified in spectroscopic galaxy

A catalogue of the voids in the IRAS 1.2- Jy survey

Using the VOID FINDER algorithm we have compiled a catalogue of voids in the IRAS 1.2-Jy sample. The positions of the voids correspond well to underdense regions seen in the IRAS smoothed density

Automated Detection of Voids in Redshift Surveys

We present a new void search algorithm for automated detection of voids in three-dimensional redshift surveys. Based on a model in which the main features of the large-scale structure (LSS) of the

Voids in the LCRS versus CDM Models

We have analyzed the distribution of void sizes in the two-dimensional slices of the Las Campanas Redshift Survey (LCRS). Fourteen volume-limited subsamples were extracted from the six slices to

Voids in the Las Campanas Redshift Survey versus cold dark matter models

ABSTRACT We have analyzed the distribution of void sizes in the two-dimensional slices ofthe Las Campanas Redshift Survey (LCRS). Fourteen volume-limited subsamples wereextracted from the six slices

Voids in the Large-Scale Structure

Voids are the most prominent feature of the large-scale structure of the universe. Still, their incorporation into quantitative analysis of it has been relatively recent, owing essentially to the

The CfA Redshift Survey: Data for the South Galactic Cap

We present redshifts for a sample of 4391 galaxies with magnitude mB(0) ≤ 15.5 covering 20h ≤ α ≤ 4h in right ascension and -2.°5 ≤ δ ≤ 90° in declination. This sample is complete for all galaxies in

The Southern Sky Redshift Survey

We report redshifts, magnitudes, and morphological classifications for 5369 galaxies with mB ≤ 15.5 and for 57 galaxies fainter than this limit, in two regions covering a total of 1.70 sr in the

An Imaging and Spectroscopic Survey of Galaxies within Prominent Nearby Voids. I. The Sample and Luminosity Distribution

We study the optical properties of a large sample of galaxies in low-density regions of the nearby universe. We make a 5 h-1 Mpc smoothed map of the galaxy density throughout the Center for

The PSCz catalogue

We present the catalogue, mask, redshift data and selection function for the PSCz survey of 15 411 IRAS galaxies across 84 per cent of the sky. Most of the IRAS data are taken from the Point Source

Voids in Real Space and in Redshift Space

Using two-dimensional numerical simulations of gravitational clustering, with initial power spectra of a power-law form with index n, we compare the properties of voids in real space to their
