Strain JC141(T) was isolated from an alkaline soil (pH 8.8) at Mau, Uttar Pradesh, India. Colonies were blue with a metallic sheen; cells stained Gram-negative, and were oxidase- and catalase-positive, but chitinase-negative. Major fatty acids were C16:1ω7c/C16:1ω6c, C16:0 and C18:0 with minor amounts of C10:0, C10:0 3-OH, C12:0, C14:0 and C18:1ω7c.
